I actually run a heavy infantry unit that has drop training. I've also got a WiP AC and a medium infantry unit too, but seeing as I could choose only one, I went with heavy infantry. I just like having troops that are a bit more durable if they need to leave cover

I like light infantry. In and out. The enemy are dead before they even know they are.

Medium line infantry for me, the old thin red line. Nothing like a bit of volley fire, backed up with a touch of the old cold steel....... and a bucket load of heavy weapons and pie plates!

I like heavy infantry, with gun line tactics. My men line up in an impenetrable line, with countless of lasgun armed guardsmen (my squads don't carry special of heavy weapons, so that I get more of them for the same price) and behind them are my 3 tanks (unless I'm playing apocalypse...then it's more like 1o tanks, muahahaha!!!) and then, getting ready to deep strike as the basic guys move forward, are my 30 storm troopers with 2 melta guns in each squad, so they can do tank hunting. My command squad brings as many support teams as possible. The reason I use heavy infantry, is so that I don't have to put them in cover (which, in my experience, usually blocks my view of everything that I need to shoot, and nothing I don't need to shoot). That way, they can absorb fire and still make it close enough to rapid fire. In 5th edition, I make my massive platoon count run and get into rapid fire range, while blasting the crud out of them with 3 (or more!) battle cannons! It's almost flawless...because no matter your opponent's skill, he'll never be able to kill that many men in 6 turns!
