if ytou really can't decide go with missile launchers.
but mortars can be fun and lascannons are aswome as wll, but for entirely diffirent reasons.

For regular infantry, neither is good. Missile launchers and Heavy bolters are the way to go....
For HW teams, since you already have plenty of Anti-infantry/anti-light vehcile firepower, I'd advise lascannons.

i use mortars the are great to takeing out troops and hq that might be trying to hide back, or hiting the point heavy troop choice, there S is;nt great but the pinning factor makes up for it. try them both and see what ones you like, and they each hold a usefullness aganist and draw backs it just depends on the enemy.

Las cannons kill what they hit. tanks or troops,
so go for las cannons

lascannons are powerful but you still only get a single shot with a 50/50 chance to hit

mortars aint much better a well spaced squad means only one hit, with a weak weapon strength your looking at 4+ to wound, also as for pinning tests half your opponents marines/orcs/necrons ignore pinning anyway. plus they get a armour save plus with the scatter you can miss all togethor. Las cannons what they hit they kill or force a risky Inv Save, so though its only 3 shots if you get a hit you kill it from gaunts to avatars, they cause wounds and kill high toughness characters and they kill tanks as well.

that is true, I'd take lascannons before I'd take mortars, I save mine for when I'm ready to throw in the kitchen sink.
go ahead and make up some of them though, just glue them down to an extra base and stick two guardsmen with lasguns beside it, that way you can always try them out if you want to.

I would do lascannons. I have my mortars built and they aren't on stands. If I ever need to fill in a points value I would use mortars just how it was said earlier. I just drop 3 mortars in with 6 normal infantry.

yeah it is more effective for me to have 3 more lascannons but mortars are just so tempting to do

If you do not have much in the way of anti tank, then the lascannons should take priority. In a 1.5k game I will run with 3 LC (in HW team), 3 ML, 3 AC, 3 HB. This of course being the infantry HWs (read: not the ones on vehicles). However, I also usually put a Mortar in each of my 3 command squads. I use my command squads for morale and therefore want to keep them out of LOS most of the time. The mortar allows for them to still do damage while staying out of LOS. Plus, when they are in command squads (instead of a dedicated mortar team) you have a chance to cause 3 pinning tests
