Now, i dont think i have seen any tanks with any flags attached to them, i think these would make the tanks stand out. I would probably attach a flag or simillar to its aerial.
Question is what kind of flag would be suitable to fly from a tank?

traditionally flags (unit designations) are usually painted on.

I wouldn't put a flag on the aerial, but I plan to put the Basaliskian standard on both sides of my demolisher.

flags are used in real life on ariels and poles in display runs, they are removed for combat.
i had a regular that spent ages moaning about how unrealistic 40k tanks are with rivets nad the way we advise to do weathering, he also had a major problems with the forgeworld tank commander holding the flag,
i enjoyed leaving i could finally tell him to Shut up in not so nice words
