*Grabs hellcarbine, snatches grenades, straps on carapace armour, hands Helmian a bolter*
"let's go and slaughter loser players, apprentice!"
*boards a Valkyrie*
Man, that's not right, at all! That's not how the game is played - you can't just deply wherever the hell you want because you're gonna take some casualties at range from a bassie! I recommend (highly!) that you don't play with those losers anymore. If they suck that badly that they're required to deploy 3 feet out of their deployment zone, and won't play by the rules, they're not worth your time!

*cocks bolter and strapps on helmet, putting on rayband(or what the heck its named)glasses and saies''ready when you are''* they are not worth your time, house rule for you, my friend: the ws of orks is reduced to 1, thoughness of orks reduced to 1 strength of orks reduced to 1 and then laugh them in the face saying that if thats we are going to play we play it with that rule!

first of all, was this an apocalypse game? if so then you deploy by deviding the table up in a random direction with the scatter die and make a line, no one may beploy 6 inches on either side of the line. wich means you can end up having guys set up only twelve inches apart, of you better set up your lines pretty far back to avoid getting rushed right away, if that is possible.
if it isn't apocalypse than I'm afraid you guys must be doing something wrong, for one thing, how did you manage to have a entire squad armed with flamers and granade launchers?
you all need to reread your rule books a few times.

Thanks for your sympathy guys. And no its not an apoclipse game. I was able to modify that squad with taking old grenade launchers and Flamers from my older box from my first Ifantry squad and from the newer box. Last time i checked there were no rules against it. I call them my Wep Squad.

special weapon squad? 6 guys with 3 special weapons just to clarify?
3 special weapons are the most you are allowed to take in any squad other than a command squad, where you can take up to 4.

well if your going to do things like that then I guess its ok for your oponent to deploy anywhere he wants to, you begin throwing out the rules and there is no end to what you can do.
maybe I am just confused, next time post your army list and we'll do our best to help you sort it out.

in the current game (5th Ed) the closest that you can deploy to someone is 24 ". Which, is the only way you can get a first turn assault for the 2nd player.
Once you start modifying rules for the fun of the game, you need to clear it with your opponent. Set up your squads the way you are supposed to according to the rules. I'm sure you will find it is just as fun.

ssgtdude Isn't it 18" in dawn of war?
Yeah you guys definitely need a rule book. Each army has it plus and guard is ranged combat. Tell your ork buddy to get used to it. ;D

ssgtdude Isn't it 18" in dawn of war? Yeah you guys definitely need a rule book. Each army has it plus and guard is ranged combat. Tell your ork buddy to get used to it. ;D That one is a little misleading. It states "more than 18" so you have to be at least 18" and a the smallest sliver of an inch that you can even think of. In that one I tend to deploy second and really look to make sure my opponent is not going to get a first shot at me. Again, I don't mind going second as I like the first turn assault with my girls. Orks hate it when I do that to them.

Best thing to do is not make your own squads, then shout very loudly at your opponent, 3 times louder then them should do it. or use violence, but thats optional. ;D And after all of that they still cheat just keep refusing to play them and insult them from time to time, always works. ;D

flamer granade launcher meltagun plasmagun
all of those listed above are Special Weapons
Heavy Bolter Auto Cannon Lascannon Missile Launcher Mortar
all of those are Heavy Weapons
in a normal infantry squad you are allowed to take one special weapon and one heavy weapon.
in a platoon you can take up to 5 infantry squads each with one heavy weapon and one special weapon, each platoon is lead by a platoon command squad, they are allowed to take 1 heavy weapon or up to 4 special weapons or a combination of 3 specials and one heavy.
the only weapon an entire squad is allowed to take is the humble lasgun, and thats it, you can use Caps Lock all you want, its not going to change anything.
I'm sorry but you should probably read your codex.
please don't be discouraged, this is a complicated game and it takes a lot of time to learn everything.

ymmot is correct on his weapon layout. Although, I thought you could only get 2 special weapons in a command squad if you took a heavy weapon because one of the guardsmen has to act as a loader. Also, if your friends have a problem with the table being too big, just mark off a 6x4 boundary and play inside of it. That's standard. Then, if you want to play 3000pts or over just make it bigger to something everyone agrees on.

Biohazard, Hope you do not take the wrong tone with the first responses you got here, the people here at IG Message Board truly do want to help you. YOU WILL ALWAYS HAVE A HOME HERE FOR RULES QUESTIONS AND CLARIFICATIONS Our job here is to encourage you and your buddies to read and post more often here, pick the collective brains and get to know how to play (and play WELL) Hell, I can recall the very first time I was offered an army (in trade for a propaint job I was doing), and I could not figure out WHY if the Space Marines, Sisters of Battle and Imperial Guard are ALL fighting for the same Emperor, they could not cross-use vehicles (like SM's with a Hellhound, IG with a Landraider, or Sisters with Sentinels.) They are on the same side, why not? It baffled me... The guy that was commissioning me for the job did not really do a good job of explaining the different missions, roles, fluff and concepts for the different armies - with time, you learn and grow and understand. Now I look back and shake my head at those thoughts... SM's with a Hellhounds? Sisters with Sentinels? What on earth was I thinking? wait... there is always VDR.... hmm

Yup, we're a band of friendly psychotics. Just imagine a very large bar that contains every Commissar in the Imperial Guard. With strippers, and the odd space marine cowering in the corner.
Oh, and.
Rules are your friends: I.e. Read them and learn them. Personally, if my enemy did that I'd simply say 'Oh, alright then' and then switch in Creed for my HSO (thus ensuring first turn) and every special weapon as a flamer.

Please stop yelling, it hurts my ears. You're actually one heavy and one special weapon per squad. The box comes with 4 flamers and 4 grenade launchers so that you can have some extra bits to play around with. It also comes with 25 heads but nobody expects you to make 5 of your guardsmen mutants.

I'm fairly sure everything will be made clear to you once you have carefully read the imperial guard codex, the box comes with exta special weapons but you may only have one per squad in a standard platoon, thems the rules, don't complain to me because I didn't write them.
You may use those extra special weapons in your command squads, you'll have to take at least two of those. one for your HQ and the other your platoon command squad, and another for each additional platoon your take. The command squads consist of an officer and 4 normal guardsmen, the officer can be armed with weapons from the imperial guard armoury and the guardsmen can be given a veriety of options, one being the ability to give each of the four guardsmen in the squad a special weapon of your choice.
unfortuantly none of that is going to make any sense unless you have carefully read the codex.
