So yeah fought a tournament on sunday. We have these every 3 months or so at my local club, and i dont usually play in them but i got talked into it and was amazed at the result.
Heres the basic run-down of what i can remember. All pitched battles.
Basic Army list i used.

AF Squad

Standard Chimera
x2 Sentinel, Lascannons
x2 Sentinel, multilasers
x1 Demol, plasmas
x2 LR - Heavy bolters
All comes to about 2k points
First Game: Eldar
Now i know this guy quite well and i know his army which was a tad unfair but thats life. Relatively short game, lasted 4 turns in which my vets systematically blew up every tank they found, never missed a shot, bless them. Storm troopers were early casualties when they stupidly gravchuted into a building. I basically out shot and out fought those pesky space elves and earned an early victory.
Second Game: Space Marines
Against an ultramarine force here (yes i know what youre thinking - and yes, your right) He was running the 'standard' Land Raider with terminators and chaplain with jump pack. Now, this player was new, and was still working his way through the game so i should have given advice and help. And basically i didn't. He stood still with his raider, leaving the terminators in there, not doing anything. My only casualties was the AF squad and their chimera who i'd foolishly driven up a handy road in the centre, killed single-handedly by the chappy with the wings.
Another result, and i was onto the semis.
Third Game: Eldar
Another Eldar player (We have about half a dozen) but this guy i didn't know (Somebody's cousin or somesuch) and he was playing some pointy eared, flying red painted skimming army. Massive units of Jetbikes, Autarch on jetbike, Serpent (Nicely converted, btw - puts my basecoated minis to shame) full of Fire dragons and some pesky vypers.
Now i could just lie and say the dice gods were against me (It'd be true! honest!) and i lost by that method. But truly this guy ran rings around me, my tanks blowing up here there and everywhere to lances, The bikes ploughing into my flank and the SO and his squad kicking the bucket from massed shuriken fire. With that i had lots of failed morale rolls. Only unit left on the table was a unit of trusty vets, having all three plasmaguns to overheats.. :l
So a loss, but i can still get 3rd place.
Fourth Game: Chaos
This was a grudge match for me, this Iron warriors player (dan) i had never beaten, he'd ripped my army apart everytime we played. So i had to do this and get 3rd place.
So our armies were facing each other over a very nice board with his marines in a trench-like complex opposing mine on a very green open field-like side of the board (I did think of expressing my thoughts, but i stayed british and said nothing).
Though, with my determined state of mind, i had lost my cavalier attitude to the game and actually looked at it tactically. He had used the trenches - it all looked very nice (very Iron Warrios) but that meant his units were grouped together, seperated. On turn 2 my Glory Boys arrived next to a rather stunned basilisk crew and blew it out of the water with their melta. The heroic demolisher led the way forward with his sentinel entourage and started demolishing things. In the meantime, the Carapace was certainly earning its points by keeping my troopers alive for those extra few precious seconds to write their wills before the marines reloaded.
So it was turn 5 and we both had a handful of men left, my Storm troopers relatively intact in the far corner, pouring hellgun rounds into his flank, my demolisher, turretless blasting holes out of things with sponsons. He had a sort of last stand type thing around his Dreadnaught and Lord in the centre, the remains of my infantry behind a wood lickign their wounds. With that, the Game master called it a draw and we both earned Joint 3rd place.
So all in all, it was a good day out 2 wins, 1 loss and a draw. Would have been nice to have beaten My nemesis and his Shooty chaos, but twas not to be.
A consolation though, that eldar player that beat me in the semis went on to win the whole thing.
EDIT: Just want to point out that some rules are a little lax in our club (Namely The Iron warriors basilisk - superbly painted and converted - he said hed stop crying if we let him use it )
