I don't know if this is supposed to go here or not, but it does not hold any solid information, and it was passed by word of mouth, so I think that is the very definition of a rumour The other day, my friend went with a guy he knows to a GW store to play a game against a member of staff there. He was playing Space Marines, while the guy working for GW was playing IG. Fairly typical fare, apart from the fact that since they had the new IG codex in their grubby mitts in that store, they used the new rules when playing. I got an e-mail giving me a brief recap of what happened in the game.
Basically, from what he said, the Guard fairly well destroyed the Marine army. He said that the sheer amount of firepower that was brought to bear was fairly obscene! I don't know the full army list but he made mention of sentinels armed with lascannons, 10 man squads armed with a lascannon, and heavy weapon squads bringing the pain. He said that in the very first turn of firing, the Guard managed to destroy both Thunderfire cannons, a Techmarine, a Land Speeder and most of a Tactical Squad!
Things started to even up slightly when the Drop Pods came in; with a Dreadnought, Sternguard and another Tactical Squad leaving them. The Dreadnought did manage to vaporise a tank before getting whomped, but the Sternguard weren't massively useful and the Tac squad got butchered fairly quickly. They did have a squad of Stormtroopers on the board, but they apparently didn't do much, killing one thing before being wiped out themselves. He was, however, very impressed with the whole command thing, especially with regards to the new orders system. He said that it was a big factor behind the massive amount of fire directed at the Marines, and the big reason why so many things were splatted as much as they were. It ended up with a rousing victory for the new Imperial Guard against their Big Brother Marines
He also did manage to have a flick through the new Codex book, although very brief, he did say he was impressed with what he saw, and made specific mention of Yarrick being well hard. I can ask my friend some more questions, but he was merely an observer in this battle, and like me is only very recently getting back into playing 40k again, and is choosing the Space Marines for himself, so I don't know how much more I can get from him. I know this account is a little sparse on new information, but it was a fight against Space Marines with the Guard using the new rules, and it was a fight which the Guard won a resounding victory. Shows that these new rules may indeed help us get some good wins for the Guard after they come out in May. I for one can't wait to get my hands on it properly Thanks for reading!
