anybody see any HW teams on there....I sure don't . Grab those 20 man boxed set's now guys. Well they dropped the points cost and then in turn up the price of the guardsmen. Never cease's to amaze me. I guess its the battleforce for me then.

Again, Catachan are not in the jungle. Hello, wake up GW! I know all that stuff about the urban jungle, but really? How hard could it be to just use the backgrounds from the lizard men boxes?

Post by commissargaunt on Apr 11, 2009 17:54:46 GMT -5
VERY, apparently. If you think about it though that background does make the models show up a little better. hell why show jungle-camo dudes against a jungle background. YOU CANT SEE EM lol!
But i see your point Lord Solar Macharius yeah kinda silly that they're not in the jungle aww well since when has GW ever been logical???

$22 actually. If I run the numbers in my head guard used to be $1.75 a model, but now are about $2.20 PER GUARDSMAN. That's kind of dipressing, I hope I fudged a number somewhere.

Nope, that's pretty much right. 26% increase in the cost of Guardsmen. Of course, I bought most of mine at something like $8 for a blister of 3, so it doesn't seem quite so bad to me

I'm just glad I have all the troops and HWs I need. I've got a few unassembled guys left over for when I get my Command Squad (Plastic Meltas and Plasma! Huzzah!). The way I see it, the best way to start an IG force is to buy 2 Battle Forces and one of these boxes.
That'll give you 2 Platoons with either 2 Squads and an HW Section, or 2 Platoons with 2 Squads w/ HWs. Combine the 10 man boxed kit with left over bits from the two command squads to make your HQ, and throw in two sentinels, and you have your force.

yeah, it does seem that the guardsmen in BFs are going to be WAAAAY cheaper than buying them in the single squad sets

The battle force is basically a single minimum platoon with a heavy support team and a sentinel. It gets you this at minimum:
JO + Laspistol + CCW Medic + Vox-caster + GL + Flag 80 pts
2x Infantry squads + 2x Vox-casters + 2x GL's or Flamers 120 pts
Support team + 3 Mortars 60 pts
Armoured Sentinel + Plasma cannon 80 pts
For a total of: 340 points (I think I messed that up slightly, I'm tired)
Overall, that's almost a full friggin army right there! With 2 of those plus a command squad, you get a 1000 point army! That's what I'm doing!

yeah what i said the new way of building a guard army, and only for £115 plus what you wnat to spend on "extras" like advisors and such.
This may in fact make guard more affordable than we thought!
4x Battleforces= 80 men-2x 40 man platoons 12 heavy weapon teams-2 per platoon 2 JOs plus command squad for the platoons 2 HQ choices or 1 HQ and 1 set for conversions on IG squads and 4 sentinels!!!
all for £200
whereas on its own this lot would cost £320 a whopping saving of £120!!! This truly does look like a spiffing way to build an IG army now!
And think of the 6 LR tanks you could buy with the £120 you saved!!! ;D ;D ;D

The guy front-centre on the Catachans box. You see the one, doing the 'check-out'my-triceps' pose...is his arm on backwards? His bicep looks like an elbow, and his arm seems to be bending the wrong way. And his arm is so large, it looks like someone grafted a leg on there or something. And how com etheir backdrop is urban? Shouldn't they be camping (it up) in a jungle or summat?

Rodger that, flank right, overwhelm the foe!
Lol. Anway, one thing I wish the box art would have is a more gritty, dirty feel, like they're in a harsh battle zone. My local gamestore manager says to GW people all the time:
"Listen to me!" *points it himself with thumb* "The GRIM DARKNESS of the 41st Millennium, not the HAPPY, BRIGHT, CAN SEE HIGHLIGHTS FROM TEN FEET AWAY"
