I am pretty new to things and I don't have access to the new codex. Can a Primaris Psyker join a psyker battle squad? That seems ridiculous. Make a leadership test to shoot us and oh if you are within 24", have a -10.

I think that the Primaris Psyker CAN join the Psyker battle squad, however i think that only the battle psykers count towards the negative modifier. although a -10 LD result is pointless, it does exactly the same thing as a -9 or -8 modifier, as a double 1 is ALWAYS a pass.
OMG BRAINWAVE! callidus assassin uses LD as toughness and has a str 8 weapon. -10 toughness modifier can mean INSTAKILLING ANYTHING, even T 6 or above ;D ;D ;D. Space marine heroes goodbye ;D

I might have to buy one of those assassins just to try this now. Better yet, put both in chimeras, since psychic powers and the neural shredder are both shooting.

Assassins can't ride in vehicles. Or join squads. That would be too broken. Quite the fascinating bit of artwork you've got there. I laughed, I'll admit it.
You know the Callidus/ Culexus is walking around w/ the psykers killing everything that moves, going "We got Death Star!"

Oh that's right! I've never actually bothered to use assassins so I'm not terribly familiar with their rules. :-\

John_Galt basically there are 4 assassins:
vindicare: ubersniper with an AP 2 sniper rifle and "special shots" Culexus: anti psyker animus speculum (weapon) is AP 1 and gains shots when psykers are nearby! Callidus: appears ANYWHERE you want her to. Eversor: can have 10 attacks on the charge and is the cheapest of the lot (my personal favorite)

Ok another newbie question, we can take assassins? Is that in the new codex? What are the rules for taking assassins?

No the assassins are not in the new dex' however you can include them in an IG army by using the allies rules, basically you combine the IG force (in a limited way) with either the Witch Hunters or Deamon Hunters codex.
I think that lets you take 0-3 troops choices (that CANNOT make up your 2 compulsaries) 0-2 elites choices and 0-2 fast attack choices from the other codex.

What everyone is forgetting about the Culexus is that per the "soulless" rule, everything within 6 or 12" inches, friend or foe, has a leadership of 7.
So if you're rolling up behind the Culexus with your Primaris Psyker, he's still only going to have a leadership of 7.

You can take 0-1 HQ, 0-1 Elite, 0-2 Troops (Not for Compulsory Slots), and 0-1 Fast Attack. Remember also that you must take an Inquisitor Lord to unlock an Assassin as an Ally. Not a bad option anyhow, since we've got no other way of getting a Psychic Hood.

So if you're rolling up behind the Culexus with your Primaris Psyker, he's still only going to have a leadership of 7. It's 12". And, quoth the codex: "...unless it would normally be less than this." It's not going to raise the leadership... think about the spirit of the rule. The annoying part is that, yes, it does affect your units. That's fixable for a few extra points, though.

and just one quick clarification. The "Allies" rules are not in the main rulebook. They are in the Inquisitorial codecies, (Witch Hunters and Deamonhunters), and specifically allow Imperium armies to ally with those army types. There is no way for other codecies to mnix outside of Apocalypse.

Yes I do think that the Primaris psyker can definitely Buy a psychic hood.

Well, it's a bit of gray terrain here, as the description text nearly mentions it("Complex micro-circuitry and neuro-active wiring are connected to psychically attuned crystals embedded in a psyker's hood or collar, designed to bleed away excess Warp-energy.") but it's not in the PPs description entry(He's got Flak armour, laspistol, forse weapon, frags and refractor field and no further options). Furthermore the psychic hood entry doesn't exist in the wargear or any other section not even as a reference to the rulebook. I sincerely hope it's just an error, hopefully rectified for the release, but I wouldn't keep my hopes up...

that may be, but it is not tuned the saame as the one the Librarians wear. Librarians, being Space Marines first, and psykers second, have hoods designed to allow them to fightr and defeat other psykers. They can do this because they are Space Marines. This chap, formidable though he may be, is NOT a space marine. He does not posess the presence of will and sheer fortitude required to do mental battle with the likes of Far-seers and Chaos sorcerors.. His "hood" is designed to protect him from the predtory creatures that infuse the warp, from which his power comes.
In other words, he does not have a " psykic hood" as defined in Codex: Space Marines, and he does not provide any defense against enemy psykers.

all a psychic hood does is augment your own psychic abilities, what he is wearing there, may well be a psychic hood, of a different design to a marine one. But if he can't purchase on in the army book, he don't have one.
