Fellow Officers, I was wondering what your opinions might be for the new Elite option, the psyker battle squad. To me it sounds a slightly peculiar choice fluff-wise but it may have some interesting applications battlefield-side. Their morale reducing power could benefit any gun line or spearhead(probably the latter as the opposition would be closer to their table edge) and their offensive power could hurt a lot. They're probably a good investment if covered by lots of infantry(which we possess in abundance) or in a Chimera IFV(I think you're allowed to use a fire port for psychic powers since they're like shooting a weapon). What do you think about them? Alternate uses? Numbers in the unit? The Tactica Imperium awaits your vital input.
By the way, I'm putting this in the Rumors section since the codex isn't out yet. Please relocate appropriately if you think this shouldn't be here.

I think it's rediculous, and it will get killed off way too easily. They don't have a good enough save and even in cover are still only T3 with a 4+ cover save. If you roll perils of the warp you lose D3 psykers!!! I'm probably never gonna use them. If I get board and run out of stuff to buy I might make a team and try it out, but I'll never use them in a seirous game.

CMON! a psyker squad Aeon i don't know where your head has gone! you get the potential of a str 10 ap 1 large blast and put em in a chimera and they cant be shot whilst firing their blast out!!! also yeah you lose D3 psykers with POTW but how many times have you rolled a POTW, its on a roll of a 12 thats a 1 in 36 chance so you'll lose your D3 once every six games. also the potential they give with a culexus assassin is quite awesome with 3 squads of em that could be 32 str 5 ap 1 shots at BS 5 plus the 3 str 10 large blasts. In my books thats nasty!
are you sure their 5+ save isn't invulnerable, being psykers and all.

I think the value will be realized when applied in multiple squads with a list that focuses on provking pin tests. they'll be pretty uselss against certain things though,(like orcs, for example.) I think it'll be pretty darn mean in freindly games though. Thyey tend not to have a lot of fearless in them, and the majority of SM will actuall have some trouble with this.

He can only do that once per phase. you should have three squads if you are doing this, AND, I don't know about your area, but Librarian are few and far between around here......

No one I know runs a Librarian in their army. Yeah, I guess this could work...it just doesn't seem very "fluffy" if you know what I mean!

The librarian is pretty awesome, beats the chaplin hands down as much as I hate to admit it... 100 points for a IC with a force weapon and two free psychic powers of his choice,
I almost always have to deal with one when I'm fighting SMurfs.
as for a psyker battle squad... I think I'll skip it and stuff my elites full of stormies.

yeah but i can still see some pretty mean Psi-guard lists emerging 2 Primaris psykers plus 3 full psyker squads and some allied GKs with psyker Inquisitors. PSYK out! plus the one Culexus assassin with like an assault 40 BS 5 animus speculum tee hee Eldar: wow and i though we had psykers galore. *rapidly fried by insane animus speculum fire*

That's an insane tactic! I didn't think of that! Just put 'em in a chimera to keep them alive, wam! Dead everything within 12" of that assassin! We should start a pinned up Cheese Tactics thread...

Indeed! This is basically just a variation of the 5 seer counsels and a Culexus apocalypse tactic. I tell you it shreds everything within 12" especially psykers (as the Culexus can target them even if they're in a squad!!!

The Template maxes out at S9, the tenth dude is the Overseer, not another Sanctioned Psyker.
One thing that bugs me is that it looks like you have to wait to use their Ld Reducing Power until after you've issued Orders, which means you can't use it in combination with Fire on My Target to pin Squads in good Cover. Maybe not that big of an issue, now that I think about it.

i always dislike like pyskers untill now. the fact they stack so well with a that assassin, is to going to be a realy nasty suprise. Or use there ld bomb with rats and or a vin assassin and that is some good pin power. But they dont fit the fluff of my list either but i will have try them out for a few games.

Ok, the Cullexus/psyker combo sounds great. It's becoming apparent that the psyker options for the Guard can become very useful. And yes, the Primaris Psyker sounds evil!

Maybe in an Apocalypse game if I have some extra cash, the models don't really appeal to me

I use Delaque Gangers from Necromunda as Sanctioned Psykers. With the Trenchcoats and the fact that they've all got their eyes covered, it looks pretty good.
