They are part of a troop choice, and you can take 5 in one slot, now...

They cost more because they start with Mortars, instead of having just Lasguns and then buying the Heavy Weapons on top of that. If you work out the final cost after adding in the guns, they're noticeably cheaper.

Yeah, it's about 20pts cheaper overall. For a team of lascannons, it's a saving of 5pts. Not much, but then again, everything counts in large amounts.

The codex giveth and then the codex rippeth from our broken, bleeding hearts !!!
The price hasn't dropped a great deal. If you have five squads with three teams each squad. Each squad with one of the five different weapon types, the total saving is a mere 55 points. not even enough to buy another squad. But far better than a poke in the eye with a sharp, Doggy Poo covered stick. But still, the codex is giving, even though it's just a little bit.
But wait, the codex giveth yet more, Now you can have five of any of those squads in all of your six platoon HQ's. That's Ninety heavy weapon teams !!! [glow=red,2,300]90[/glow] MADNESS !!! With an even spread of weapon types that's just over 2400 points. It would appear that "Le Codex Nouvo" giveth quite a bit more.
More yet ... in one squad you can have any type of weapon, not like having to choose anti-tank, fire support or mortars. I can have a mortar, missile launcher and an auto cannon in one squad.
And yay ... the Good Lord God Emporer Most Devine, Gracious, Merciful, Wise and Powerful bestows yet more gifts upon us mere lowlife turds.
All givething I notice. No takething at all.
It's not too bad I suppose.

You can have different heavy weapons in one squad now?
That's useful.

actually 55 points would give you one more infantry squad wih a flamer or granade launcher.

Heavy weapon teams are awesome now. We can take them in vaster quantities, they are part of troops rather than heavy support or just H.Q (they can't be taken as H.Q anymore, though ) but they are far cheaper, and mixable. Now, gunline guard becomes even greater than before. Don't forget to buy your codicies this Saturday! (I'll be at a Military tattoo, but you can bet your buttons that I'm getting it the moment the tattoo ends and I can make it to the Virginia Beach Hobby Town USA!)

Just a word of caution, though it's probably far too late by now - heavy weapon teams are a single entity with 2 wounds. This means they can be instant- killed by S6 weapons...

Autocannons are creeping death for them, be careful.
Also, @vesuvius Hetlan: He doesn't play an uber gunline anymore, he plays a mass charging suicide bombing martyr force known as the Emperor's Fist.

Not entirely a mass-charging suicide bombing martyr force, Aeon. I can't take nearly enough demo charges for that...

i personally come up with the general assumption:
infantry have been made cheaper overall, while tanks have had a considerable increase in points and as well as their upgrades.
though im sure eveyrone found that out.

I would personally shy away from taking heavy weapon platoons, with the exception of mortars, to vulnerable and to risky to put 3 heavy weapons in one squad, instead of throughout my army. @ william, may i recommend downloading Firefox, all your typing online will have spell check
