Their heavy weapons are so damned expensive though and my servitors are always following the priest as he rushes off to repair my broken tanks that I never use the gun options.

If you Tool one up for heavy weapons add a few tech servitors as throw away wounds to keep your HWs alive but DO NOT move HW servitors, you've tooled them up for shooting, so shoot with em!!! If you want a "fixy" techpriest then give him all tech servitors and leave the HWs at home.

The old techpriests were way better ssgtdude I have the old codex right in front of me it says. "OPTIONS:Techpriests Enginseers have access to the imperial guard Armoury. Servitors do not count towards the Enginseer's wargear limit.
God people use to write to gamesworkshop about that. If only people could read.

yes but now Techpriests don't take up a FOC slot, so its kinda they giveth they taketh away.
But I find that a reasonable tradeoff.

Comparing the Guard Priest with the Astartes, the points are pretty much the same, and while the Engineseer gets a free power weapon, the Marine version gets better general stats. The servitors are pretty much the same.
But the Guard win, in my view, with the fact that they don't take up any slots in the FOC - Guard ftw!

In old codex you could only take 4 Servitors now you get more. Old servitors didn't have a powerfist unless you paid the upgrade now we get it free. Who wouldn't want 6 free powerweapon attacks after your normal attacks (Granted they have to survive combat).

Only real problem I have with the new Techpriest is that he is not an "independant character" so he can't join other squads/command squad, and he can't take a transport. So if you have an entirely mechanised Guard army (in Chimeras), the only one who can't take a transport is the one who fixes vehicles and is "closest to machines"... seems a little bizarre...
