Hey guys, remember that old unit that no one EVER used to use, the techpriest enginseer? Well he has just undergone a serious "zero to hero" change in my book. I have a crap ton of tanks, I ran with 9 in a 2000 point game today and I was trying to be infantry heavy if you can believe it. These guys are a VERY good investment if you have a spare 45-90 points to work with and a lot of armor (Seriously, I'll take them over Marbo every time.) Here is why I will ALWAYS take one in my armies. 1. The test to fix things now happens in the shooting phase, meaning that 1 centrally located techpriest will reliably be able to get to and fix any vehicle the same turn it was damaged. 2. Their basic roll for the test is now on a 5+ rather than a 6+, so they are better at their job. Servitors are somewhat more expensive now (15 points over 10), but you now only need 3 for a 2+ save rather than 4, so in effect to get the test to work on a 2+ only requires 3 servitors. Also servitors still add to your roll even if you give them a gun (I woudn't advise this as then you won't be able to run to the tank without rendering said gun useless. If your stationary though and the techpriest starts next to the tank already then your fine.) which is better than before. 3. They don't take up an elite slot. You are allowed to take 0-2 techpriests with your army and they don't use up any force org spots! So get/convert/dig out of storage these guys and set them to work on your tanks. Remember that most of our tanks cost a bit more than they used to, especially when you count upgrades and sponsons, so protecting your investment is now more important than ever before. In my game today just as an example, my techpriest un-immobilized 2 chimeras and almost a 3rd (It got charged by a furioso dreadnough ), and he nearly killed a land raider with a meltabomb too!

hmm, well you can't really do that anymore but he is better off on his own. Still has that wonderful 3+ save. I almost never make it, usually its either 1 or two wounds, which I put on servitors, or about 11 which he will not save all of with my rolling.

Hmmm, I never got into Bob the builder -- be it marine or otherwise. I'll have to look into this.

Erm, sorry to disagree, but the rule says that it's only servitors armed with servo-arms that can help. Gun servitors replace them in favour of their big weapon. Please don't hit me

I've always had a Coghead in my army. He makes me feel good, with his blood splattered white robes. He actually killed something once too! I had him fix a Chimera in a gome once. (with his 6+!) I dont have the new codex. I'm kinda... groundedish...

As I now have my own codex I could double check and yes weapon servitors cannot help repair.
They do all come with servo arms though, so the ENTIRE unit gets 1 free STR 8 powerfist attack each!!!!

Tech priest and servitors are great for combat too.
Remember all servo arms act as power weapons on the 1st init phase.
So even if you do not trade in you still get the power fist attack. Up to 5 pf attacks with a single squad. Nice.

I'm kinda... groundedish... Get on them grades, boy! If I remember correctly, you're not one to talk, Aeon. @ Commissar Orren: You might want to try hunting down a PDF of it until you can get your hands on a real one. PM me and I'll send you a link. I would get a copy though, because it has all the fluff and a great showcase, which the PDF I have lacks. Also, it's a lot more convenient to flip through when looking for rules and point costs. Reds

The old techpriest was better and now 3 servitors are now 45 points and 4 of the older sevitors was 40 points (thats 5 points cheaper). Plus giving the old techpriest honorifica Imperialis was the best thing I did.

Get on them grades, boy! If I remember correctly, you're not one to talk, Aeon. Oh Snap! Burn! *ahurm* excuse that please. Cogboys are so cool, I would have had one if I knew that I'd have a tank heavy army. The only think I don't like about them is, fluff wise, is the adeptus mechanicus. Very sly and tricksy, not exactly team players, and who is this Omnissiah? Machine god? Yeah, sure, the Emperor is the only one for me.

Actually I believe the new tech Priest is better due to the fact that the servitors now have the power fist attack. In our old codex we had to pay extra for that loosing the ability to take the +1 to the roll for repairs. Now we still have the repair roll and the power fist attack due the servo arm being standard on all servitors unless you up grade it.
Not to mention you still get your normal attacks at initiative with all the servo arms hitting on initiative 1.

"I am ready to serve...again." -Zombie Robot, on being a zombie robot (DoW) Cogboys are so cool, I would have had one if I knew that I'd have a tank heavy army. The only think I don't like about them is, fluff wise, is the adeptus mechanicus. Very sly and tricksy, not exactly team players, and who is this Omnissiah? Machine god? Yeah, sure, the Emperor is the only one for me. For great cogboy fluff, read Abnett's Titanicus. He goes in depth into the cogboy society, including the differences between old and new mechanicus. Just as juicey as his inquisition stuff. Best line EVER: "I have a grenade launcher." -Skitarii, on brainstorming.

Don't forget with the old Tech Priest your servitors went the way of wargear when the gogboy bit the big one. With the new priest they don't disappear and have to make a leadership test to do anything so long as they are not in combat. Again the powerfist attacks they get is more than enough to make for the fact we the Honorifica Imperalis.

With the old techpriest you could get 3 HB and a plasma cannon, all firing with BS4. The gunline servitor squad, often overlooked.

No, you can take five servitors, but only two HW at BS 3

the old servitors were BS 3... but you could give the plasma cannon the signum's bonus with a re-roll to hit with his blast weapon, back in 4th ed where small blasts either hit or didn't... ahh nostalgia.

Gun servitors were BS4. Combat servitor were WS4. Ordinary servitors were WS/BS3.
Heck of a lot more powerful in the old dex, but more fitting to their role in the new.
