I read books for two different reasons, and specifically look for two diferent styles of writing to meet those goals.
Some authors and subject matter I read because I want to think and be challenged, my goal when I pick up the book is to learn something (even if I am learning how much I disagree with the author) I have no real *favorites* in this category.
Other authors and subject matter I read for sheer entertainment value... Fred Saberhagen, R.A. Salvatore, Orson Scott Card, Harry Turtledove, Asimov, Niven, Patterson, Grisham, Clancy, Robin Cook and Steven King fall into that category as authors I keep going back to...
How about yourself?

i like war books (like 40k novals and Sharpe). I also like Terry Pratchet. My reasons for war books is that i am in for an exitment with out getting to caught up in troubles with breathing over tension. Terry Pratchett is just good humour and an interesting read

I am keen on war books upon the eastern front of ww2 and soviet conflicts else where. But I also love this book shantaram, it is possibly the best book I have ever read, even better than war and peace I find... Very good.
