I agree, that movie was amazingly awesome, made me think of what a very large tyranid invading New York would be like.

It was pretty darn good. Considering what the director was going for, I believe he hit the mark...
Some of it was still a bit of a stretch for my "suspension of disbelief" (which I am all for when I go to the movies.)
I would see it again, I will buy the DVD when it comes out, which says a lot because with netflix and all, I am pretty stingy about actually "buying" DVD's.
Even though I wanted Hud to get taken down FAST because he's an asshat, he had the best line in the movie (no spoilers, so I'll just say "what would REALLY freak him out" in the subway... you know the line!)

no, it would wreck the hobby i think, GW would automaticly try and match everything up to the movie and make it like LOTR. Though it would be good, but bad news for the hobby

I saw cloverfield last night. I think that this movie sets a precedent in the monster movie genre.
@cadian - I LIKE that they did not tell you everything. In staying with the plot point that our heros are just regular joes, they would not know much, would they? Granted, J.J. Abrams could have put in a little more info in the very beginning, or at the very end, but maybe he's going to extropolate upon this in another movie, or a special feature in the DVD.
Oh, and did anyone stay long enough after the credits to hear the guy whispering? I got none of what he said, and I think that whatever the dude whispered, it was pretty damn important. Did ANYONE get what was said?
***SPOILER***(well, sorta) I was reading up on wikipedia, and apparently, the monster itself is a newborn O.o A newborn one of these could withstand the best military weapons in the world, as well as a carpet bombing???!?!? Jeez!

Yeah- "hey! there's a giant, seemingly malevolent monster rampaging through new york! I know, let's go rescue my girlfriend, who's trapped in a building, that's likely collapsed!"
*skip away to tune of "yellow brick road"
