Come one, come all, this topic is dedicated to the good tanks, the Griffon and the Exterminator, taken, as you may well know, from the latest verison of the IG Codex, rant, rave, consider what has been, and what might be.

Just what made the Grif better than the rest of the IG line of tanks? I mean wasn't it just a mobile mortar? Btw, it's been a while since I've touched my 'dex, so don't blame me for not remembering it's stats. Hehe.

The fact it had indirect fire, coupled with a respectable S of 6 and AP of 4, t was very good against most races for only 75 points. Tau, Orks, Eldar, Dark Eldar, Kroot, Space Marine Scouts, and other IG all rightly feared the Griffon. With luck it could penetrate the back armour of most tanks, and it also caused a few marines to drop. All in all, it did to most races what a basalisk does, but only had a 12inch blind spot, and was 50 points cheaper.

I dont remember being as devastating as the basilisk, but I do know that it is a far more flexible veichle, it was the most fun tank to use, and had a beautiful model. the crew were outstandinglooking. Mind you Its still alive! Its still fully legal and I still rarely leave it at home! Same with the exterminator (especially as I commonly play orks! ;D)

I'm wondering whether or not to order the Exterminator turret from forge world. It's pretty sweet but I'm not sure if I'll ever use it.

I could always just buy the turret and switch between LR and EX depending on what I'm playing against. I like that Mars/ Alpha pattern thing forge world has going on.

Ya, I think the only real good the Exterminator ever did was against races such as orcs and Eldar. THey owned them. I never was a fan of the Griffon, not enough S and AP for me. Howeve,r the exterminators are a definte loss. However, remember they did say that we would still be able to use them in the WD. THey said something about like bringing them back or something.

No kidding, that's some serious fire support! I'm not a big fan of the way the autocannons on the model look though. That just gives me a reason to convert it!

What I find really annoying is the last tank I bought before the new Codex came out was, in fact, the Griffon...

Even though it isn't S8 Ap3, and can't insta-kill SMurfs in one shot doesn't mean it isn't a kick-ass tank. And for half the price of an LRBT, it is GREAT. Especially if you can guess spot on (like me ;D). You can drop griffon shell after griffon shell on the rear armour of dreads, rhinos, preditors, leman russes, anything with less than AV 12 on the rear. The griffon was and still is God. I have 2 of 'em ;D Eller

the exterminator put out an awsome amount of fire power for its cost, and with that much fire power something is bound to die........if nothing dies....then your dice hate you.......same with the griffon.....infact....even more so with the griffon......

But then again, that applies to EVERYTHING. LRBTs, griffons, demolishers, infantry, etc etc etc. Eller

Our great little codex redelevoper, Pete Haines, wrote this in his Designer Note's article on the Imperial Guard homepage (http://oz.games-workshop.com/40kuniverse/warhammer40k/imperialguard/articles/designers/default.htm) page 3.
But still that sucks the exterminator for me took out at least 15 SM's and 6 TR's a game not to meantion the now overflowing mount of orks, eldar and Tau.
Regards Colonel Tasalof

yeah, it's really too bad not many guard players saw the potential of the exterminator and the griffon.......

If only people realised how kick-ass griffons are. Today, in one battle a griffon took down an enemy whirlie, and a 100+ pt Dread. In another battle, first turn landed a shell on 5 Dark Reapers. *BAM!!!* killed itself 200 odd points in one shot ;D
Only army I wouldn't consider taking griffons against is maybe Necrons, but if they take lots of scarabs, than maybe.

I have a Griffon, but an Exterminator is next on the list. Maybe two, and do away with my standard pattern LRMBT.
