lol yeah, and synster said only codex variants but he included a baneblade! (or was he talking about the leman russ variants?)
personally, i know this sounds dumb but, i like the chimera!
i killed a vindicator with its multi laser, a ziandothorpe with its heavy flamer, and i think a few nids with the lasguns so yeah.

I never use the crew operated lasguns on chimeras. they fire into the side arc and when do you ever 'present your side' to an enemy when your side armor is your weak point?

chimeras are really good at long range fire support though if used as light tanks and given heavy stubbers, I've found. kinda screws with the whole 'take the objective' theme though

I hate to say it but standard leman russ side armor is just a turn-off when I can have demolisher side armor for a few extra points (with way better weapons options). the leman russ seems like a cross between the demolisher and the basilisk - made to sit back and fire indiscriminantly at foes who're out of its range. this would be all good if during the battle they could keep falling back and manoeuvering so that they could stay at arms length from the enemy, but alas, when the friendly lines get charged, the russes can't fall back and end up flanked and slagged. while the demolisher doesn't have any extreme range death dealing capability and only starts being able to contribute to the firepower at 48" or closer, the enemy typically tends to come to us so it's not so big of a deal - besides, having armor that hides in round 1 means that it's going to be there longer and thus be harder to deal with (compounded by the fact it's up-armored from the standard russ, making it's lasting power even more). this is a good thing for grabbing late game objectives and things like that where you need something with mobility to survive and win the day. just thoughts. I think I may do 2 demolishers and a regular russ - there's no doubt that the leman russ has value, the extreme range pie plate death it can dish out coupled with a mighty front armor rating make it seriously nice...my preference just lies with the demolisher (although I have to admit, I like the model for the standard russ better - it's just iconic of the IG ) (don't post stats - Woz) ***edit*** wow sorry woz, lawyer boys crackin down hard these days? didn't think that would be an issue since I wasn't talking about what armor ratings were relating to what vehicles or what the +points were totaling or based off of. anyhow, I'll try and be more vague cuz well gosh darn it I just like it here edited my post to be even more vague for ya!

I think I'm gonna do 2 russes and a basilisk. use the russes to cover the basilisk and keep it out of the line of fire - that'll give me a heavy armored presence on one flank - where the enemy will likely focus to get inside the minimum range of the basilisk, which in turn brings them into my demolishers guns - then the other side of the field gets shelled non-stop from the basilisk essentially lending that heavy support feel to my opposite and lighter flank.
I think that'll work well.

I use one basilisk and 2 battle tanks, this works well for me, when i play my enemy is too busy dealing with charging guardsmen and getting pinning by snipers to even worry about my lisk, and due to that it rarely gets taken out, now my russes on the other hand are movin up with the line, but they are a good vaccum for shots to take them off the guard, and they survive pretty well, (unless those pesky brightlances/lascannons/rail guns get a good shot off) other than that, 3 tanks, especially my lisk, have benifitted greatly, i coulden't imagine trying to play well without at least 1 russ, they just seem to me the backbone of the imperial guard fighting force.

yeah, boy oh boy, s10, brightlance, and melta nastiness make even the mighty IG tanks look frail and weak.

Preferred tank:
Leman Russ: 3 heavy bolters, battle cannon, heavy stubber
Simple to use and very devastating

i like the chirmeras if you have seen 2 armoured fist squads taking two objectives in the last turn of a game then you will know how effitive the lasguns are. try tank hocking an ork mob then blasting the remants with lasguns. ;D

Russes and Demolishers are nice, but if you consider it points-for-usefulness, a Chimera is one of the best transports in the game. With heavy bolter, multilaser, and stubber, you can get 14 shots per turn, and 8 of those are at a very good strength. If thats not enough firepower for you, you can pop a melta or bazooka out the top and lay down some heavy fire. Plus, a Chimera just saved my bacon in a game a few hours ago...

I am tied, I would have choosen a Chimera, but in a game I had two weeks ago I destroyed an entire Devestator squad with one shot from a battle cannon. That was the first shot of the game too! It was a proud moment for me. This tank managed to rack up something like 170 points worth of kills in only two turns against my friend. Unsuprisingly my enemy concentrated a lot of firepower to blow it up. I went on to have a victorious slaughter over my enemy's SM in that game. The Battle cannon is brilliant!

A good Idea... In theory the tanks arrived before they dropped in the support troops. Kinda element of surprise type move....
I dunno, grasping at straws here...
Its a tough call lisks come in handy, but the demo has the armor'd support set up....then the iconic appearance of the russ....plus the hellhound is a favorite, mainly because I love fire....Baneblade, I think DoW says it best "Ready to unleash 11 barrels of hell.".....and chimera's are the backbone of the guard... Can I pick, IG tanks in general?

First off; Vanquisher my lads. Its a tough tank with the capacity to snipe other tanks for virtually guaranteed kills, battlecannon shot for everything else, and a free coaxial stormbolter to keep the crunchies off.
Second: Drop Troops and tanks is a risky but rewarding strategy. I've used it in the past, and had great success with it the few times I roll with my IG infantry force.

Sentinels! The rambo sentinel with 4 twin linked heavy bolters, 2 autocannons, 2 last cannons, 8 stormbolters, 6 hunter killer missiles, extra armour and a screaming deaf guy piloting it! Yes...I have built one! But for real, I guess a leman russ, its a fantastical tank.
