Ok, so with my armies assembled (yet as a whole, unpainted) I felt it was time to really buckle down and get a decent table together for my home. I need terrain! Terrain suggestions! Terrain tips! Terrain websites! Any advice on how you guys make your terrain that is not only easy and cheap, but looks pro and fantastic during a fight!
PS: I would also like to get my hands on some of the Imperial City pieces from City Fight if anyone knows how to get some for cheap. ;D
PSS: Pics of any of your awesome terrain features would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you for your Terrain based attention!

armies? Tau Eldar and IG? still got yourself some SoBs? rpg.kamloopian.com/ <---this guy has some interesting/amusing terrain making videos... well...I think they are kinda amusing anyway... I made some craters by arranging little triangles around in a circule on a flat piece of foam then covered the entire thing in vinyl spackling, looks pretty good...it would look even better if I painted it.

I want the best "general" all purpose table I can get. SO, a ruined Imperial City or something like that is very appealing. There is almost always at least 1 Imperial Army on the table anyhow. ;p
It will be for all manner of armies. Tau, Eldar, IG, Marines, Chaos, Orcs, Nids will be gracing its presence that I know of.
And Sadly, my SoB have been retired. I kept a small 600 pts army of well painted models that I could bare to part with- the rest were (or are in the process of being) traded for IG and Tau.

One would think I'd see the giant Terrain board and have placed this thread there...
Sowwy. *grin*

(when you feel the need to anyway.) but yes...terrain section... perhaps we shall find ourselves there soon enough.

I'm also considering getting some of the Planetstrike goodies for the table top. Not sure. Maybe mix it in with some homemade stuff.

Go to a store and browse the 'how to do terrain' book. It's got some good ideas in there.

Im sure you have seen the "pegasus terrain" thread i made. If not, check it out. they have great terrain that is a bit cheaper than GW. And varies from GW if you are tired of the terrain looking the same.
For the "Assault on black reach" table we made one half look like part of a hive. large building bases made of foam core about 3 inches tall, a smaller building on top of that made out of GW terrain, and then towers made of GW terrain. The buildings were all different heights and had a walkway connecting them at the base and at the top of the towers. The other side was destroyed HAB buildings made from gw building sets and barricades. the middle was a bombed out road with craters, barricades, and crashed shuttle. Was awesome to play on, and looked great.
Naturally we lost the contest for best shop table because the Battle Bunker was able to use FW trenches.... Didnt even look good.
Anyway, I'd deffinatly try to scratch build something cool then buy some buildings(GW, the new planetstrike stuff, Pegasus, forgeworld). variations really make the game more interesting to me.

do natural freatures like hills and what not by hand then maybe make a few of your own ruins then toss in a plastic building or two...
at least that is the way I'd like to do it.

Ty for all the great info! The Pegasus site is really helpful!
Also, does anyone have any experience working with the clear resin? For making water effects, ooze and such.

It's 6 plates that make a 6x4 table. It's actually quite well made, but it's horribly expensive. You still need to add buildings, craters, etc, as well, unless you buy one the kits that comes with terrain pieces.

I think that is the offical GW table set it comes in like 6 panels and makes a 4 by 6 foot playing surface (or what Reds said.) Woodland Scenics ----> woodlandscenics.woodlandscenics.com/index.cfmmakes some water type stuff that is pretty good its self leveling and self setting... my buddy carved out a piece of foam and sprayed it orange then poured some of it over the top, it settled nice and flat(with a few bubbles) and looked like some sort of radioactive pool or spawning pit, it was really pretty neat, and easy to use.

If your cheap and want to build the terrain yourself I suggest this site. www.terragenesis.co.uk/It is great with good articles and helpful people. I used to hang around but then I faded away into oblivion from that site. But I still skulk around now and then just to see what has happened.

Try the AMERA website for cheap vac-formed terrain, a little work produces some nice, cheap stuff. I will post some pics of my IG Fort in a day or two. www.amera.co.uk/
