I run my leman russes with heavy bolter hull, extra armor, smoke launchers. My demolishers I run with heavy bolter hull, heavy bolter sponsons, track guards, extra armor, smoke launchers. I have 5 leman russes, 3 battle, 2 demolishers. Generally I try to keep my leman russ out of anti tank fire by putting them behind cover at the begining of the game and setting up alot of anti troop in front of them. I use there long range and thus dont lose them to much to have any other extra armorments. The demolishers on the other hand need the heavy bolter sponsons, as you move up the field you fire at the enemy with the heavy bolters and then the cannon when they get in range. The heavy bolters are also good when you dont want to risk the scatter, as they with get 4 wounds on average.

i have personally tried many things with my LR's over the years. The first one i made had sponson HB on one side and a flamer on the otherside. Then my friend told me i couldn't do that.It was a pretty cool idea i thought but just didn't work. Since then i have put HB's on all my sponsons and a las cannon on the hull sinply becouse the LR's take alot of fire and to have the second AT weapon is a must for me personally especially since i go up against necrons from time to time and a str 9 is better than a str 8 on a tank for taking out that pesky deep striking monolith. Having an armoured company on the other hand where you need alot of smaller firepower i would say take a few tanks with all HB's and the executioner( think thats the oen with the twin linked AC's ).I made one out of a pair of cast off multi laser barrels from some sentinals i made into catachan patern sentinals.it looks pretty good actually.

I've got a plain vanilla leman russ and was wondering if i should include another with HB on the hull?

I'm with the folks voting for the leman russ w/ triple heavy bolters and pintle heavy stubber. that's a bucket of anti-infantry dice which almost makes the choice debatable whether to drop a battle cannon round on the enemy or just shoot em up with the hull/sponson/pintle weapons. definately nice to have this setup vs. sisters of battle with their damnable 'oh hey my whole squad just grew a 3+ invulnerable save' act of faith. I'd love to say 'ok fine no prob, hand me that salad bowl so I can roll all these anti-infantry dice of attrition death' the more I think about it, the more I like the leman russ annihilator. cheap and fairly reliable - an AT tank, imagine that!

I agree with Turtleboy, hideous amounts of high-strength dakka AND a battlecannon? What WONT be killed/intimidated by that?

Turtleboy is correct, that is alot of fire power... What if you made it twin linked? The bolters I mean, and the stubber?

You can twin-link them?

I dunno, thats what I'm wondering. I kind a thought it would look really spiffy if a Leman Russ had a twin links heavy bolter on the hull.

You could use the VDR rules to make some twin linked heavy bolters.
