hey guys
just bought the leman russ kit and i was wondering how everyone else configures there russ's?
is the lascannon really worth the points you pay for it if you have other anti tank weaponry?
and are the sponson heavy bolters worth it if u can get away with just using the battle cannon for the whole game?
peace out

I like to fit it out with the Lasconnon because, more often than you think, the BC is put out of action pretty quickly. I means I can still drive it around the field and put holes in armour. I don't think I really need any more HB as I have quite a few in Inf squads and Fire Support squads

Depends what you want it for. If it's just for cheap armour then hull heavy bolter and nothing else. Lascannon is good but remember it's only BSx. If i have to choose between my leman russes i would go with 3 heavy bolters, it's cheap and keeps on killing when the battle cannon gets knocked out.

Is it worth it at all to have Heavy Flamer sponsons on a Leman Russ battle tank?... I am curious as to what other peoples outlooks are.

Las cannon, Heavy bolters and heavy stubber. I don't use heavy flamers because of the limited range and my tanks are always supported by infantry.

I use 3 Hvy bolters because I play a lot of nids and if they get close enough I want to shoot as many as I can!

I left off the side sponsons. Probably should have kept them...

I Usually Equip Mine with the Lascannon to use as Back up for the Battle Cannon and Side Sponsons with Heavy Bolters For Defense .... my Exterminator However is A Heavy Bolter Nightmare But I imagine You can guess what I use That For .. great Troop Support, plus It Works Great With My Hydra ... depending on the Battle, I'm usually feilding a Demolisher/Leman Russ Pair or hydra/Exterminator Pair .. Then I got My Earthshaker Platform and Destroyer To Throw in For fun for Either of those set ups .. My Demolisher is the equiped with a pair of Sponsons Multi-melta's ...

My Demo has the sponson Plasma Cannons, I find they can do a little more damage to squads. Im thinking about using the heavy flamers on one of my leman russes for close infantry support in cityfight areas and places with dense cover. I feel like Im gunna need all I can get up close and personal.

straight demo with lascannon hull.. not so many points to slap on the table and i can get more troops.. plus it is a one focus at a time tank.. take out heavy infantry with the demo.. or take out tanks with the lascannon once i lose the demo.. no side sponsons.. they usually just get me killed faster when someone else fires an ordinance my way..

I have a lot of different set ups. I like just a heavy bolter in the hull when points are tight. This doesn't give me many options after the battle cannon gets destroyed, but I ussually have good infantry cover and better ranged power than my oponents, so my tanks are fairly safe. I have one russ with three heavy bolters and a stubber, which would be beast if it was an exterminator (9 heavy bolter shots, 2 twin linked auto cannon shots, 3 stubber= 14 shots per turn, and can move 6" and still fire all of that). I think I have a few with a hull lascannon and sponson heavy bolters. My Vanquisher ussually gets just a hull lascannon. And sometimes I bust out the executioner turret just for fun. Mmmmm plasma....

mmmm plasma.... All my tanks have sponsons because I figure if I am going to shoot, shoot a lot. I have two Russes the same with Lascannons and heavy bolters, but i am considering changing the one to have heavy flamers... and my demolisher has the lascannon which is good for on the approach, plus the plasma cannon sponsons, and the extermintor i have currently has the autocannon, heavy bolter sponsons and the lascannon hull, but i am trying to chisel out the lascannon to stick in the 8 year old heavy bolter bit I have haha, he original

Yeah, Heavy bolters all the way, especially on my Exterminator. To the OP, I'd highly recommend making one of these, cutting of the battle cannon and replacing it with twin linked autocannons is a fairly simple operation. I used to always take a heavy stubber on it too, but I find the point cost for it compared to maxing out on H bolters is too high, so usually stick with the 11 dice (2 rerollable) instead of 14 . I have a vanilla russ too, and usually max out the H bolters on that too, it's cheap and 9 dice of H bolter fire is well worth having as an option

Always heavy bolters as they lay down withering amounts of fire.

I take diffrent variant all the time. But the last one I bought have 3 heavybolters and a heavy stubber. It's great if the enemy starts to spread out his squads so that the battle cannon gets ineffective. I also add a smokelauncher...

I just realised the full potential of the battle cannon when I played against kroot for the second time! The battle cannon and the pie plate! Amazing!

I'm gonna have to try out the "leman russ annihilator" FW just put out. I've always though twin linked lascannons made more sense for guard than marines, and it'll make for a neat anti-tank tank that can shoot sponsons and all that jazz in the same turn as the main gun. And it's cheaper (pointswise) than a normal russ. Woot.

i have one LR set up with HB sponsons and las hull.
then for my other LR hulls (i jus swap around the turrets, unless i playing AC) #1 lascannon hull no sponsons #2 HB hull no sponsons #3 all round HBs #4 las hull with HB sponsons
and hopefully when i get my next LR hull i will order some plasmas cannon sponsons, then equip me demo with las hull, and plasma sponsons. just for ultimate tank AND heavy-infantry busting cheese.

Id hav a lemun russ converted into a lemun russ conquerer cannon...then that makes sponsoons werth the points....i mean, the fact that the conquere cannon isnt an ordnace means firing all the weapons u put on! but fer a normal lemun russ....id negelct the sponsoons and save the points fer other purposes

my LR has the two heavy bolter sponsons mainly because i don't plan on letting my enemy get close enough to warrant the use of flamers. although a deep striking anti tank unit would be easy to take care of with flamer sponsons. I guess its motivation to keep the enemy at arms reach. I use the lascannon two because i personally feel that for 15 points its a bargain to have a highly mobile tank killer when an infantry squad needs to spend 25 points to get a lascannon. I love the battle cannon and its pie plate too and finally a heavy stubber to top it off. mainly because i love the look of those heavy stubbers! EDIT: My next LR i want to convert into an exterminator too, i just love autocannons and to have a set of twin linked autocannons moving around the battlefield at a decent pace would be sweet! thats my two cents worth anyway
