But you could use sentinels as well, the lascannons help to mop up any surviving armour and they penetrate the crap outta infantry

But you could use sentinels as well, the lascannons help to mop up any surviving armour and they penetrate the crap outta infantry the armageddon pattern is expensive, and the armor value makes them pretty weak. if you need lascannon put it in a squad so the bodies can soak up hits and protect your gun.

thing about artillary is if you used emplaced defensive protection for you self propelled bassis you guns cant shoot and scoot. its better to keep fluid go out meet the enemy under a protectioed curtain of the guns. artillay works best when you have fast attack to threaten the flanks when the enemy bunchs up they can then be blasted real good dont get hung up on being static keep moving its stops counter fire from things like sky rays/whirlwind etc. fast attack is the key. rough riders and hell hounds

I tried that setup once...And then the mission turn out to be cleanse. The worst idea EVER! lol Like everyone's been saying though, if you have some good cover, just plop some hellhounds, and maybe some grenadiers in a chimaira, and that should give the enemy something to deal with for a least a couple of turns.

Those must've been brave men, i cant just plop a chimera and a squad down tehre and expect them to last out long, in fact, they usually die upon hoppin out

I noticed they always die on their way out too. So now I mostly use them as decoys, or i drop them off in a way that the chimaira is blocking line of sight (since it usually gets destroyed at this point) and I get a nice 4+ cover . They did take a pretty savage beating though. The only thing that saved my arse were 2 squads of drop troops comming in in turn 4. I dropped them in 2 seperate quarters away from all the battle, behind cover.

get them into hand to hand them use them as target markers for indirect fire, drop troops are for girls shock them with fast attack (must be said i dont win often but loosing is a whole lot of fun) then hold them with infantry and blast them with guns after the IG are a sledge hammer not a scalpel lol

That's why I like droop troops. You can HAMMER the enemy with tanks and ordonance, lascannons and autocannons. Then, instead of walking your special weapons up the board to get chewed up by bolters, you just conveniently drop them in and let them do their thing I find that HtH for guard, unless you make a full HtH list, is a pretty good way of not getting anywhere (unless it's the ol' meatgrinder conscripts with an indipendant commisar). But that's just cheesy, and I don't like cheese

Of course drops are for girls! The guardsmen are the lil girls of the imperium! And if you drop some troops and don't hafta buy a chimaira for them....Then you can spend the points on more meat for the grinder! Mwahahaha. I tried a list with 2 hellhounds, 2 battle tanks, 1 basilisk a chimaira, a platoon and 50 conscripts with an indipendant commissar. That was an awesome rush, and a target rich environment for the enemy.

I actually slaughtered my friend once, charging my guardsmen into melee, it was a big battle i recall..i think around 4500, so i had rushed like 150 guardsmen into his one tau firewarrior squad...carnage
