After playing several games, I have to say, I can't see myself not adding the extra points and taking Dire Avengers over Guardians for MOST games. They are simply better all around and have access to an Exarch with super cool powers. And they don't break the bank. I haven't played with Storm Guardians yet, but since most of my opponents are assaulty, I haven't seen the need to pick any up yet. Ye Eldar players, what is your troop of choice?

avengers...
I like guardians and I love the fact they can move and fire their heavt weapon...
but avangers with a 4+ save bs4 and an 18 ince s4 assault two weapon means that I always take some dire avengers.

I'd use Avengers (I've helped a certain girl with tons of Eldar lists and have had to become pretty able with the team in order to instruct her, so I know at least a bit what I'm talking about) simply because there's good reasons not to take Guardians. They're just as expensive money-wise and pretty mediocre in combat. Sure they can lug around a heavy weapon, but personally I always preferred them on the tanks, all Eldar tanks can the same heavy weapons as the Guardians as far as I remember.
And they're pointy-eared militia.
However, if I was going to use Guardians I'd prefer to base the entire army on them, just so they don't look silly next to the high-tech veterans.
But that's just how I feel about them. =)

Well, when it comes down to it, they both have their pros and cons.
Guardians: Pro's- Mobile Heavy Weapon, Access to Warlock, large numbers, low cost, Assault Weapon Con's- Die if looked at the wrong way, 12" range, 5+ Armor Save, T3
Avengers: Pro's- Exarch Powers, 4+ Armor, 18" Assault Weapon, Bladestorm Con's- Small numbers, points cost, T3
Basically what it comes down to is what do you want them to do. Avengers are a great bait unit, as they can stay out of assault range, just not the assault range of things with jump packs, and keep up a good rate of fire. Then, when you're just out of table, you can unleash a bladestorm, and use the following turn to get back into position as they reload.
Guardians are heavy weapons with wounds. Seriously. Even though you can put the same weapons on tanks, a decent sized Guardian squad with a Scatter Laser and use your Farseer to cast Guide or Fortune, pop 'em in cover, and that's a pretty solid objective taker.
Basically, I find that Avengers do better in a mobile shock team role, something that's hard to find in the Eldar army. While Guardians are good for laying down fire support, and shredding things that get too close to your lines.

Guardians expensive guardsmen if you ask me. Could you explain why you say this? I'm curious as to your reasoning.

Perhaps expensive guardsmen with a bit more shininess. But still foul xenos swine.

well lets see same WS, BS, S, T, W, A, Ld (because guard sergeants is 8) and same armour save.
The only advantages guardians have over guardsmen is a stronger gun (not a better gun, a stronger gun) and a higher I.
Also there name is almost the same

And the ability to take a mobile HW.
They also have access to mobile cover saves from Warlocks.
Farseer's can boost their ability to hit, take saves, and even force the enemy to re-roll armor saves.
They can have larger unit sizes.
And can still fire and assault, tying your unit up and preventing them from firing.

Also, you can have a maximum of 5 guardsmen squads for a single troops choice, and to get them, you have to buy Platoon Command Squad....
From what I understand, guardsmen squads have a greater variety of weapons to choose from.
They can receive orders from Command squads, making them more effective....

Avengers have the killing power. But guardians can wield weapons platforms. For raw infantry-killing, I'd say Dire Avengers.
