Hi, I'm new to the forum and to the IG world on the table top. I recently moved from the Waaagh's of the orkz, to the hordes of loyal IG. I am also looking for a little help with the front mounting on my old looted basilisk. Needless to say to give you the short version of the story, back in 2001 I used this poor Basilisk as a looted tank for my orkz and recently after 6 years have found the urge to come back to 40k and start painting and playing again. This poor thing has been through numerous paint jobs and conversions. I felt pretty sorry letting it sit there and not to be used on the table again. So I Un-looted it and recommissioned it into my new IG army that I started. <-side note, I loath stripping paint and bitz now> Anyway to the point, Note the flamer on the front (disregard the early WIP paint job LOL, still in the works haha) from memory's past I was allowed to use a flamer on a basilisk for a couple extra points, but Looking through the new codex there is no option for it anymore, can i still use the flamer or do I have to be stuck with a heavy bolter on front. If anyone can help me out that would be great, also any feedback on addons you would recommend or improvements (over all aesthetics or paint or anything for that matter), feel free to shoot them at me. Im excited to get to know you fellow guardsmen more and to become a regular to the IG. ;D

With my colours, I went with the more common greens haha I didn't want to steer into any crazy patterns just yet. For pads and helmets I went with Dark-angels green and for flak and pants went with camo green trimmed with dark angels. For the las-guns i went with bestial brown with a chestnut wash and beaten copper, or bolt-gun metal on the emblems with a mithril silver dry brush, And also applied dark angels on the tip of the barrel. With vehicles like the sentinel, I plan on base coating with dark angels then dry brushing camo green in a camo based pattern around the armor after applying water'd down black ink and smugging certain areas for darker camo pattern in the background.

Welcome mate! For your bassie, the flamer is not available you'll have to stick to heavy bolter.... I think you have not to put the shield on, in my opinion, I prefer the mini without it.... Let us know about the building of your army! Cheers

Well crap, i liked roasting incoming footmen As of the shield, lets just say before the gaurd got it back, the orkz did bad bad sick things to the poor shield, had to drop the whole gun floor down and customize it, I kinda dig the bassie without the shield anyway haha.
Ill give you guys updates as in how it goes with this, Thinking on naming her " The Emperor's Voice"

Nice bassie. I love the pressure valves on the side, very nostalgic and original. Never before seen on any tank, lol, thats for sure.

haha Thanks, I really thought the idea for hydraulics system was interesting and original, I plan on converting some old dread legs from an ork can to fix to the sides, In the end they should look like brace legs, to lift the bassie when in firing mod, Its an idea, dunno if i will do it or not.

Interesting, it might work. Might look a little silly if you dont do it right, but it sounds okay.

Welcome to the Imperial Guard trooper!!
First things first, no heavy flamers on the old bassie anymore, its all these new fangeled Heavy Bolters. so yeah, youll have to do a bit of a switch on that.
Secondly, need any help with an army list, drop me a message and ill give you a hand when I get it.
Im the colonel-commissar just so you know, so just keep within the rules and I wont have to excute you.

Love the basilisk, looks very cool. I do agree, the model looks better without the shield, but personaly I prefer to make plasicard-built armoured crew compartments, made to look a bit like WWII German Hetzers/Marders/SPGs etc.
A lot of my models are looted from previous IG armies and repainted as well (although personaly I don't do it more than about three or four times because otherwise mine begin to look like camoflauged blobs with lasguns).
With regards to the heavy flamer, it would depend on your opponent and you couldn't do it for tournament games, but they might let you use the points cost for the heavy flamer in the old codex, seeing as the cost for the Basilisk itself seems not to have changed over the update. A lot of my tanks are built so the hull weapons and turrets can be switched to give the army a bit of flexibility as well.
By the way, I love the shade of green you've got going on, it looks a lot less flat than just a black base, DA green paint job and goblin green highlight which I normaly use. I may have to steal this idea from you and then run away quickly.

I like it.I looks like a heavy that has been on the line and taken a bit of a beating, I might suggest drybrusing rust in some places and either repainitng the main gun to match or give it a brown ink wash ro represent the accumulated grime, and pickout the detail of the gears.
