i played an apocalypse game the other day and all i have to say is that the hellhammer is a winner!!
my commisariat hellhammer(wich some of you may have seen in the picture post forum) single handedly dropped 4 chaos dreads and 2 dameon princes of tzeentch!!!
the winged price met his demise at the hands of a heavyflamer turret my twin linked heavy bolters and the pintle mounted heavy stubber!!! the dreads were taken out using lascannons and both cannons =)
and one dread was actually dropped by the coaxial autocannon =)
needless to say i took some damage myself but with the help of a good round of damage control i brought my main gun back up and restored my drives!!!!
one hellhammer acounted for about 1000 points of chaos!!!

Souds awesome. I just got my baneblade box (like 2 hours ago) and im probably going to make a baneblade, its just cooler i think. The hellhammer gun is cool though, and if it wasn't for the smaller blast i would use it no question.

well the hellhammer is the king of city fight.... 2 twin linked heavy flamers and its main gun does not allow cover saves =)
and in the city no one is going to have long fire lanes any way so it will rock!!!!
today i took my armored column against eldar with 2 revenants with with the pulsars and one with the sonic lance
my hellhammer and my artillery battery dropped the pulsar revenant on the turn it showed up =-) and my russ squad and vanquisher crippled the other one... my opponent pulled out on turn 2 =)

as a side note the hellhammer just looks cooler than the baneblade... and one thing i have notice is that it is rather short ranged alot of people will ignore it and go after my russes =)

Course, chances are if you've got 9 russes and a single baneblade they're gonna go after the russes first, specially since they are a much easier kill and might cause just a tad more damage.

My plan was to use Magnets so I could swap out sponsons and Turret guns=). Let us also remember that even though the Lowly Battlecannon has but a 5' Pie plate, that it is still a god damn pie plate, and 9 five ichers is way scarier than two ten inchers. Its the differance between maybe a few squads or maybe a company.

If I by a Baneblade for WH40K games (I can't be bothered with apocalypse). Where do I get the rules, do I have to spend £50 on a forgeworld book for just one tank?

You find the rules in the apocalypse book...its a double whammy way of getting people both ways.

First imperial armour edition has rules for the baneblade for standard use. It doesn't use the giant template though.
