Ok, first of all I want to beg forgiveness in advance for the NOOB nature of this question - but this will be my FIRST game with vehicles in my Guard force .. so I want to make sure I have this correctly: According to the rulebook, a "tank" that does not move may fire all of its weapons OR an ordinance weapon. If it moves 6" or less, it can fire hull mount OR main OR Ordinance. Here's the delimna: I am fielding a DEMOLISHER ... in which my main weapon IS (obviously) an ordinance weapon. Mine has a LAS cannon and (2) plasma cannons. If I read this right, if I don't move I cannot fire my Demolisher cann AND my hull mounts in the same turn? That sucks! Would you tread-lord please instruct your humble servant?

Tanks weapons are divided into primary and secondry weapons. If you don't move you can fire one primary and two secondry. However you cant use secondry weapons if you use ordance. For copyright reasons I will only say that plasma cannons are classified as primary because of there strengh and are any guns stronger than them. If you don't have ordance and if you stay stationary you can shoot two primary weapons like the lascannons on a landraider.
If you have ordance and you stay stationary and fire you only roll one scatter dice, but if you move you roll two. Personnaly I rarely shoot the demolisher cannon as the dual plasma cannons kill most things anyway. Hope this helps.

Its all on pg 63 of the Rulebook. Your demolisher's cannon is not MAIN, but rather ORDNANCE (guard codex weapons listing). thus, your demolisher is equipped with 1 Ordnance weapon, and 3 Main weapons. You have no Defensive/secondary weapons as far as rules are concerned. So, when you reference the handy what-can-i-shoot-with?-chart, all should now make sense!

I was just loking for confirmation. In a recent game, the Demolisher performed VERY well! I used the las cannon until the enemy got within range. I got to fire my plasma sponson ONCE, and the demolisher cannon the rest of the game. I am really debating the side sponsons though ... other than as back up systems I can blow off if I get a "weapons" hit ... but at that point value, is it worth it?

It's a matter of preference but I think that they are. Remember if you get a weapon destroyed result it is your opponent that picks the weapon that blows off your tank.
So after that demolisher cannon is ripped off your hull you can still fire 2 plasma cannons and a lascannon every turn. An excellent setup to wipe the smile off any terminator squads face ;D

DOn't forget you can run a Tech Priest to keep that cannon as well. With three Servitors the chance to repair that damage is a 2+ Rather nice if you ask me.

IG Techs are great in that only the Tech (Not servitors) needs to be in base to base with the tank to repair it. Set him up behind two tanks so that he's touching both and he comes in handy.

How could you NOT run Schaeffer... He's like...God.
but if you FAIL and you don't use him I guess loads of servitors and a Tecky would be fine.

I wouldn't consider it a failure not to run him. I have a fairly good run with my own IG without him.
However, to remain on topic. when running any sort of light vehicle army it is just a good idea to have a Tech Priest or as Priladog points out Grease monkey.

Sponsons on a demolisher? Absolutely. Take them out of principle alone. Its the ONLY vehicle that can field the plasma cannons or multi meltas for the Guard. Dont take flamers or heavy bolter (both a bad match for the range/strengh of the main weapons). The PCs are more fit for heavy infantry hunting with the greater range and MMs are great for close up vehicle busting. Keep the LC in the hull as it can run the same rolls as both the PCs and MMs.

Wow, theyre better than a Techmarine atm, it takes 4 tech servitors before they repair on a 2, although with a servo harness they can reroll.
