I was wondering what would be a better choice: the GW pack of 3 Leman Russ or the 3 Basilisks?
I already have 2 Leman Russ, 1 Vanquisher (forgeworld rocks) and a Basilisk (as well as a baneblade, chimera and sentinel). I would mainly be using it in apocalypse since our local club has the "Apoc" fever and i wasn't sure which would be the better choice.
At the moment i'm swinging more for the basilisks because the idea of an artillery company would be great to use at a GW GT and the larger board size in 'Apoc' would mean they could make the most out of there 'Uber' long range.
Any help would be appreiciated (<<<i think i might've spelt it wrong)
P.S. i also have the infantry support for the tanks

For my Apoc army I'm loading out with 9 bassie's and the Chimera command tank. Then I will be throwing in my two baneblade and a hellhammer.
I am hoping that they come out with a data sheet for the hellhound soon as that in itself is a truly devestating squad of pure burning retribution and Emperor's wrath for sure.
Along with it I do have my normal load out of girls who know how to lock and load to hold objectives.
While you have the range for the Bassie in apoc sized tables you have to remember that a lot of people are taking the flank march asset and that pretty much screws a backdoor open in their favor if they want to go up your backside. So, it is imperative that you have the support there as well. That my friends is what I have found the Hellhammer for.

In apocalipse basilisks would be much more useful, as in apocalipse the value of HS slots is negated. Also, what ssgtdude said about flank marching is of extreme importance. I blew up my freind's bassie with a 'nade laucher!

It depends on your army/groups army composition. I would say go for the russes, but I prefer moving heavy armor then a static artillery gunline. If your AV12 will survive long enough and your happy with your tanks, get the bassies. If you find that you wish you had some indirect support and want to remove some more 'stubborn' targets, get the bassie.

Were it not for the 36' minimum range on the Basilisk's terrifying Earthshaker cannon, I'd choose to use Bassies everytime but due to this annoying rule the Leman Russ would be my first choice.

Russ is mine too, they are more mobile, they can do a whole lot more, and frankly, they stir up alot more trouble.

ok thanks all for your ideas and opinions i think i might get 3 bassies and get the Vanahiem pattern gun shields from Forgeworld. But the Russ is also a good tank so i might get the tank company (10 russ ;D) and then convert one of the russ up to be a demolisher by using the Hellhammer cannon i have left over from my baneblade. Hopefully it will turn out all right

mabus the 36 minimum is only for indirect. Direct fire does not share that. Once something is that close you should be able to use direct fire on it. In other words there is no minimum range for direct fire with the bassie.
Not to mention with the data sheets for Apoc you have tracer rounds and all other bassie's attacking the same squad do not drift. It is the answer to the Green tide.
I have the Emperor's Wrath Artillery company. Can't wait to field them.

Go for the Basilisks, but also get a hellhound and a Leman Russ Dimolisher, comes in good use during battles(and if you are going to get into a battle with Tau, you will kill!!)

Last week I put the company to work in an apoc game.
7K of guard against 7K of guard/tau (Damn traitors). First round there was no infantry to speak of, second turn his tech priest were gone, third round the defense laser was taken out.
Only lost 27 models (17 SOB's, 5 Ogryn,4 Celestrians, and a Shadowsword) in that battle.
One of my Bane Blades was lit up like a Christmas tree and down to one structure point and only the heavy bolter sponsons and turret were operational, but at that point there wasn't much on their side at all.
We all had a great time especially speaking for myself.
One of the players is telling me I'm an A hole right now.

That is always a sure sign of sucess, when opponents become vitrolic and begin insulting you at random. It also gives you licensce to occasionally give one of them a Glaswegian kiss, so it'sa double bonus.
And for me the Russ will always be the greatest. I remember I once played against a veteran gentleman who had used the VDR to create a Russ with an earthshaker cannon mounted in the turret. It obliterated three units of my allies space marines before my brightlance reduced it to molten slag.
It was then I signed on with Imperial Guard.

since you already have 3 russes (albeit 2 demolishers), I think that to balance out your firepower, because the baneblade can swing either way (long range or close range tank), and demolishers are certainly close ranged, so the bassies would round out your force much better.
