I've been considering purchasing a couple of Bombard tanks from FW, their rules and fluff are realy cool. Thougts? views? has anyone had any experiance with these artillery tanks? If you aren't familiar... www.forgeworld.co.uk/bombard.htm

That thing is awesome looking! I love the loader arm and the thing on the back that looks to brace the tank from the recoil. I may have to fall in love with Artillery myself!

yeah, these guys are pretty damn cool.. from what I hear, think hellhammer blast radius on the shots.. as far as artillery goes, bombards seem pretty awesome if you're giving yourself the green light for using models with which the rules can only be found in expensive forgeworld books that are for the most part completely unavailable outside the UK.
I'm personally thinking about giving myself the green light in this regards with my new army, but it requires writing off the tournament scene for the army since forgeworld models are a no-go in US tournaments from what I understand. at that point the pride I take in having an army that's 'made from all GW parts' to retain it's unique look while keeping it tournament legal is out the window since the army is no longer tournament legal due to heavy investment into models functioning under forgeworld rules.
have I mentioned that I really wish forgeworld would publish their rulebooks for US distribution? (!!)
anyway.. the bombard is awesome but I'm not sure I can handle allowing myself to use it because if I do, then I'm saying 'this army is for friendly game play only' at which point I could use any models I wanted for my infantry guys (like my friend who's buying AT-43 minis to serve as guard infantry *twitch*). I'm not sure I can insult my 'all GW parts' conversions like that if that makes any sense <_>

the rules are awesome for it. the mention of the Hellhammer comparison is pretty much spot on. The only downside is that it can only fire everyother turn. For the points they charge for it, its better to get Basilisks really, but that thing is worth it for the 'wow' factor. People will remember the battle with the bombard, but a basilisk is just another basilisk in an IG army.

Make it yourself out of a Sawn-off basilisk barrel and a Leman russ.
Might look a bit daft, but cheaper is always better.

Turtleboy, The FW books are available in the US. Problem is that you have to special order them. You can do this through your GW store or even a Independent, or even yourself.
As far as tournements go. No you probably wouldn't be able to use it. Using any of the forgeworld stuff is now usually limited to Apoc with no questions and usually by consent of your opponent in friendly games.
You are like me wanting to keep a full GW tourny legal army, but that doesn't mean we can't play with the big toys when the time comes either.
The model looks nice, and probably could be scratch made simply enough. Chimera chassis, stripped down and some plumbing bits.
Might have to try my hand at one.

It's based upon a Leman Russ Chasis because it's so huge. The fact that it is based upon a Leman Russ body emphasises the fact that it is an absolute beast!

Pretty costs coin. Who said you could put a price on beauty? certainly not me. love the model, but i'd try to scratch it as close as i could before paying for it.

you cant just take half a bassie gun for that, its almost twice the bassie just use some plumbing pipe, put it on a LR and give it a crane from some old toycar
