The Exterminator's one of the finest non-ordanance tanks in the guard. Not quite as all-purpose as the ubiquitous Leman Russ, when given two sponson and one hull HBs, with a heavy stubber it can slug out 14 shots in a turn: more than enough to pin down an entire flank and so I commend your choice. The Guard lacks specialist anti-infantry armour to a degree, and more so in Drop Troop armies which tend to be lighter anyway. Tacticaly, it's a sound move. Conversionwise, it's a simple matter of heavy weapons-swapping - most of the heavies in the HW Squad boxed set slot nicely into both Chimera and Leman Russ turrets with only a minor filing-down of inhibitive extremities. Two autocannons fit nicely into the Chimera turret in particular, in fact all my chimera APCs have been modded with VDR to bear the Exterminator's signature double-barreled autocannon. As an aside, Chimera turrets can be easily fitted to a Leman Russ hull to give the impression of a lighter scout tank, whose main weapon is hull mounted. The opposite, with a Leman Russ turret on a Chimera hull makes for a very 'sloped forward' T-34 esque low-profile battle tank. I've never tried it with an autocannon rather than a battle cannon, but it looks like it should work without a problem. Drawing pictures, or cutting and pasting pics in MS Paint can give a good, albeit rough, impression of a finished tank. if you have the parts in advance, blu-taking parts together to make a mock-up is an even better approach. Hang on, here's a pic of my autocannoned chimera: tillmonkeys.wikispaces.com/space/showimage/DSC00140.JPGWhich turned out okay. Just one big tip I learned the hard way when converting tanks from scratch: always make a note/take photos of every step, so that if you ever decide to make another one it'll look the same and look less 'home made'. Hope that helps .

sponsons on a chimera hull aren't hard. all you have to do is take the side bits that stick out and run the length of the side of the vehicle, and cut them down so they're just an armor plate instead of a protruding armor plate (if that makes sense). I did that to do some of the armor plating with my hellhound - here's a pic: it's still technically a WIP but you get the point the front part of the side armor is all from that protruding chimera armor plating there. once you trim that down and essentially make the side flat, it's a simple thing to drop on a couple sponsons. on a side note, if you are a fluff nazi, you should know that the engines that drive the chimera tracks are in those extended armor sections, so you'll want to maybe take a sentinel engine with the double smokestacks and glue it on behind the sponson so you still have your engines (!!).
