I haven't played the game too much, only started last year, but I was wondering out of intrest. Becuse fighting as the guard is quite a challenge, due to its specilisation, surley there must be an enemy of the imperium that is very hard to beat. Not nessasarily one that is hated, but an enemy thats a real challenge.

I've not played all these opponents but I've heard that Tau are hard because they are one of the few armies that can outshoot an IG army and the weapons have a longer range so they can stand back and shoot, which is what most IG armies do.

You cant move forward that quick against em either can you. A good old fashioned tank asault should deal with the though shouldnt it?

Well I don't play that many games either but the main one I have trouble beating is Space wolves, especially since the guy who plays them has the brain of a tactician.
Besides the fact that everything I shot at them either misses or they save themselves, the scouts that come up behind me are a real problem.

I almost picked Marines, but I find I have a bit more trouble against Chaos marines than the regular ones. Marines are pretty straightforward... you usually have a pretty good idea of what they can/will do when you sit down at the table. Chaos just has SO many options though, and any of the marks seem to make the Marines quite a bit tougher to kill. Then there're those annoying deamon rushes...

It really depends on whether you're in a tourney setting or in a friendly/pick-up setting.
I choose tau because personally their the hardest to nail down tactically in a tournament setting if only because you see so very few of them on a regular basis. Now I was tempted to choose chaos because they too are an extremely varied force what with the 5 chaos options on top of the other basic SM cheesiness to which they have access.
So yeah its almost a toss up.

Tau is hardest for me. they can both outshoot and outmanoeuver us. try tank rushing against some ap10 broadsides and call me when you need me to escort in the salvage crews to tow your tanks off hehe

I voted Chaos cause I have had a few defeats against them. However I haven't yet versed any Tau armies.

Tau for sure. I can deal with Marines, its very easy if you know you are playing Smurfs to take Autocannons and the like, but I stick with my usual mass Heavy Bolter and rapid firing setup. Even hitting on a 4+ and wounding on a 5+, rapid firing weapons add up. Just give the opponent too many dice to throw. The Tau however pose a bigger problem. Hitting on a 4+ wounding on a 2+ with no standard save really hurts. Get in lasgun range and find some cover, its gonna be bloody.

tau definatly marines you can deal with by maxing out on autocannons and hvy bolters as no matter how gd an armour save, so many shots coming at them mean lotsa fails my cousins tau just sit there and try to outgun me which they always do so ive now gt a drop troops army maxed out with close range guns (shotguns, meltas, flamers etc etc) to kisk arse with plus we now play cities of death so...........FLAMERS! ads

Man necrons are a buzz kill. Any time I face them I start counting my cassualties befor the game. No tactic I have used has given me a large victory (infact i've only beet them once and it was close) they just won't die and due to the number of resorbs generally fielded in my game group (2) I just can't kill the robotic bastards.

My marines are the toughest to beat...Just ask Goddess lol. Tough yes invincable no. My best record is actually against marines and chaos marines and odly tau. I may just be a little unorthadox though. The tough ones are nids and necrons because of their relative servivability.

i would have to say space marines but only if they are fast enough.. otherwise i can outshoot them no problems.. or my slannesh still since i get them in real fast, and deelstrike on target ( homers ), and summon deamons on everything within range

slannesh are the ones with warp scream.. enemies in CC are -1 I... slap on furious charge onto slannesh then they get a +1 S and I... make that with breaking a unit.. slannesh get a +2 to the overrun roll.. i love my slannesh army... but my guard kick ass as well..

I have to say Necrons. That 3+ armour save is REALLY annoying especially when the guy at my club with then can always get a 3+ on any dice for his Necrons regeneration. Plus he always keeps his Tomb Spyders behind his line of Warriors and Immortals and his all to common Resurrection Orb carrying Necron Lord behind a phalanx of Pariahs. Git...

I've never had any problems with Necrons. But the Nids are a diffrent story. Then again it's a while since I faced them now and the last time I didn't have my Rough Riders. Can't wait until I get those heavy mortars...

I played against Tau last night and got battered. Hammerheads refuse to die. I did have poor dice but still i should have done a lot better.

I'd have to say necrons or chaos marines. Necrons have ridiculously amazing survivability and chaos marines are almost impossible to predict in a tournament setting. Tau are a hard fight, but if you hit them they tend to crumble. Indirect firepower is the secret against Tau.
