Yesterday I played a 1000pt game Vs. a guard player now my army was fairly usless exept for a single unit. My Thunderfire cannon (Now nicknamed Maximus) destroyed around 30 models in his 60 model army (not including the Leman russ demo)
In short I now Love Thunderfire cannons. Who's with me?

I like the concept, but there's no way I'm getting that model. I'll make my own first.

Yeah, way too damn expensive.
And it's all metal.
Love the concept though, especially since I realized they have three shots and not one.

It's actually four shots.

;D
The only problem is I'm not sure I like how artillery works on the tabletop. Sneaking another techmarine in the list is never bad with his cover-improving abilities...

It certainly is. though the problem is it does have to compete with my trio of preds

Yeah, predators are better than people give them credit for. Actually, the only time I've seen lascannons be effective is on preds and dettas...

While browsing the rules, I was reminded why I never got around to making my own TC: artillery is a gun and a guy. The gun has AV10 all around, and any glancing or penetrating hit = auto 5 on the damage table... The TC is not barrage, so it needs LoS; once the enemy has LoS, it's all but guaranteed to die in their shooting phase. It has the option for a drop pod, but it can never move and fire the same turn... That leaves the only viable option as shoving it into a ruin at deployment, and using the bolster defenses thing from the techie, and hope that the shots are allocated to him, and not the gun.
