So I just played a game against my friends Tau army with the Levitican 3rd Heavy Infantry... it was a 1500 point game. Let's just say... onslaught. My army lost less than 20 men and no damage was caused to armor. The Tau didn't fair nearly as well. The entire army was either slain or sent running. My junior officer (with an honorifica imperialis and power fist) personally killed the Tau's commander and Etherial in hand to hand combat, the later of which caused a lot of the Tau to flee in terror at the sight of his martial prowess. I can post an army list or more detail if people want them.

I just might... There was a name generator on a website, I want to say "Grim Stalkers Imperial Guard" or something to that effect... if someone has a link I'd much appreciate it.
It was a very fun game! I havn't been able to play much in the way of bigger games lately as I am at college, so it was quite refreshing.
Oh, and if anyone wants to my JO himself, I've got a link to some pics in the pics post section.

I'd be interested in seeing the Tau list, actually... Something smells fishy, and I think it's an outdated codex.

Have to agree with Major Whitman there, it does seem a bit fishy that a Guard army pure owned a Tau army, and took hardly any casulties.

Grim Stalkers dosnt exist anymore. Either that or he/she (whoever owns the site) has moved it to another place but didnt keep the old site up so visitors can be diverted. This was the site, it dosnt work on my PC but i think it is the above reason, if it is still up then its just my PC. www.40k.ca/imperialguard/news.htm

I think he may have used an outdated codex, not sure though. He also made some tactical mistakes that kind of fed me his troops. I also use the Carapace armor doctrine, so my troops were able to survive his shooting better. And my enemy being Tau doesn't totally mean it will be a close game... any army has the ability to make short work of any other in the right circumstances, if not the game would be unbalanced. Not that I don't agree that the Tau are ussually a very tought opponent.

I have 2 Codexs I use Codex Imperial Guard [2003 Edition] Codex Imperial Guard [1999 Edition for Leman Russ Vanquisher] I admit, I have to use an Outdated Codex, but for one rule, I always have the new Updated Codex.

do you use drop troops vs tau or was it a conventional battle? either way, big grats, tau are really nasty! that carapace armor must have been a huge asset to you - getting wounded on 2+ from the tau infantry rifles is just painful - having an armor save is truly the saving grace to that attrocity

I think, using drop troops could be very nice (for us!!!) and nasty for them!!! I have not tested myself but I'd like to!!

I've thought about it. Droping heavy infantry into enemy lines might be too fun sounding not to try.

Do it! Tau in close combat get butchered!!! Especially when the special weapons go in, plasma, melta!

Well when dropping you get butcherd in rapid fire before you may assault... Deepstriking models may not move or assault in the turn they appeared and for shooting they count as moved, so I wish you a lot of fun within 12" to the complete Tau army... Tell me when you tryed and survived it

hmmm... i'm gonna take a leap of faith here and assume that the tau player (I could teach them a thing or two about gaming) was playing pure static tau. Thats a BIG no-no agains Imp Guard, all that nasty artillery is very scary. Also, if he allowed his crisis suits to get into CC then he must have made some serious tactical errors. A unit that can only move six inches can't hope to keep up with the JSJ of a crisis suit. If you could get your hands on the list they used I could probably pinpoint exactly where he went wrong. Either that or the battle report.

He was actually very mobile. I'm farily sure that every unit in his army moved at least once in the game. I got into CC with his crisis suit because I had lured him in with a potential fusion gun shot on my hellhound. He wanted the extra D6 for being within 6 inches, and the command unit was right next to the hellhound.

I had a Shas'o, Ethereal w/ Shield Generator, 3 crisis suits, 5 man Stealth suit team, 2 Squads of 12 Fire warriors ( 1 with 2 gun drones ), 12 Kroot (including a shaper ) and a Krootox attached, 5 man Pathfinder team in Devilfish, 2 5 man Gun drone squadrons, and a unit of 2 Broadsides

hmmm, looks like you were using a prety static force after all. It also looks like you were really short on Anti Vehicle Power, this is a MAJOR no-no against Imperial Guard. Also The Kroot ox's are kinda iffy, they take away from the squads ability to Infiltrate and they are not very powerful, kinda a point sink if you ask me.
here's what I would have done Shas'o - Burst Cannon, Cyclic Ion Blaster, Fusioin Blaster, HW multi tracker - 115 pts 2x 12 Man FW squads with DF armed with Decoy Launchers, Multi Tracker, Targetting Array, Target Lock and SMS - 240 pts x2 3x HH gunships with Railgun, Multi Tracker, Target Lock, SMS and Decoy Launchers - 180 pts x3 2x 6 man Stealth armor squads with burst cannons - 180 pts x3 Grand total - 1495
I've used very similar list against imperial Guard with great succes. The HH provide more Firepower than the broadsides and have much better survivability due to the skimmer special rule, just remeber to move them more than 6 inches and they can only be glanced. However, since its a skimmer it can be setroyed on a 5 or 6 is it moves that far even on a glancing hit, the decoy launcers allow you to re-roll if they get a 5. The multi tracker allows you to fir while moving or if you need to make a getaway, move up to 24 inches. Same with the DF. If Remember taht the SMS can shoot over LoS blocking terrain so take advantage of that. His your stealth teams behind cover and use their JsJ. Even with their stealth fields they are still vulnerable in the open. If you really want to you can make the FW teams into 10 man each and remove the SMS for both DF. this will give you enough points to add a 12 man squad of Kroot and be at 1499 points.

KROOTOX!? Krootox have got to be on of the worst units ever made, they are mediocre in the new codex but in the old tau codex, they were one of the worst units known to man. They took up a heavy support slot, stopped your kroot from infiltrating, and were around 50pts with T3, and all they had to show for it was 1 gun, with the stats of an autocannon.
