The rumbling stopped, and muffled voices could be heard coming from outside.
The Chimera's back door opened, and light flooded through into their eyes. The young men within blinked and squinted, and were able to make out the 3 Commissar's standing at the hatch yelling propaganda and encouragement to unhearing ears.
The men stood up holding their arms to their faces, and trying to escape from the confines of the crowded Chimera.
After a few seconds, they opened their eyes fully, and gasped, none wanting to take another step forward.
The Commissar's cursed them and began to fire blank auto and las rounds into the air as well as shoving the men into the lines of other waiting conscripts from the rest of the Chimera convoy.
Hundreds of young men and boys were lined up to board a huge water ship which would ferry them to the other side of the river where they would be armed and sent to combat.
Commissar's were everywhere supervising everything. Some held flags bearing the Imperial Aquila and carried loud-speakers to shout orders and feed them more propaganda. Others carried pistols and batons and went around beating the men forward and firing blank rounds into the air.
Eventually, the groups of conscripts reached the front of the line and boarded a massive tug comparable to a Krieg Gorgan.
Along its platforms, six more Commissar's bearing autorifles watched over them. One pulled out a piece of paper and began to read the "I beseech" prayer outloud, but all eyes were focused on the image behind the Commissar;
Tariku Hive, once florid and thriving, now smoking and burning as two opposing armies waged war across her vast city streets and ruins.
Cultist of the Blood Pact had rained from the skies and overtaken the once great Hive Cities and ports of the world within their expanding flames of war and heresy.
Shells rained from the city and hit the water, missing their targets.
Eight massive tugs, each carrying 200 young men and boys, carried their loads over the Ave River, and to the burning hive.
Upon seeing this, eight or so conscripts jumped from over the edges in a vain attempt to escape.
The Commissar's yelled and unloaded short burst of fire into the water and killed the deserters without hesitation or warning.
Minutes later the tugs reached the shores.
More Commissars awaited them, and unloaded them into another line for weapons.
One Commissar bearing an Imperial Banner and a loud speaker stood upon a Trojan as two guardsmen below handed out weapons and ammo.
As the Conscripts reached the front, they were given old pattern bolt-action autorifles. Many were broken and unreliable, old and rusted as well.
The conscripts didnt get much time to examine their weapons, as they were hurridly pushed into a system of trenches leading to the front lines.
"Soldiers of the glorious Imperium! Today, we take back our city from the chaos barbarian's assaulting it!" Commissars yelled.
The trenches ended and the men rushed into sets of ruins behind a small position occupied by 4 more Commissar's and 2 guardsmen manning a heavy bolter.
The lines went quiet, and hushed, except for the voice of a Senior Commissar yelling across the battlefield.
A whistle blew and suddently the conscripts were running forward through the foggy streets and towards enemy lines.
The boys yelled as they charged, and some began to fire their rifles.
Blood Pact mortars opened up and men died. As they neared the enemy's positions, Heretical Bolters opened up and killed men in droves more.
The men continued firing and running, their lives depending on it. Then they broke, only 60 or so remained, and a half minute later, only half that ran back to their own lines.
"Fire!" the Senior Commissar yelled, and the Heavy Bolter opened up on the Conscripts.
"No retreat! No Surrender!" the Commissars yelled as they opened up as well with Lasguns and bolt pistols.
One conscript made it back to the lines, and looked at the Commissar, pleading for his life.
"No Retreat." The Commissar said and shot the man.
He looked back to his compatriots.
"Time to go get the next wave, they should be arriving right now."
The others nodded in agreement.
Inspired by some vid i saw on YouTube. Enjoy, give a little C&C, and thanks for reading.
