mobile, always makes the game more interesting when you have squads taking cover behind advancing vehicles, feels so more WW2

its not fair. where's the vote for those of us that blast stuff with bassis while hurling the fast attack and armoured inf. into the enemy flanks. why's there no vote for all three.

Try to mix, i mean, a battle cant be all assault or just all defensive unless u plan on losing

I have a really bad habit of charging across the field at the most inappropriate times...so i learnt to take heavy weapons in 1 plattoon and the other plattoon races across the field (using cover of course) with grenade launchers and flamers.

touchay man....thats what fire support squads are for....i hav no heavy weapons on ma platoons...just special weapons and a heck loada guys armed with lasguns....i usually run up the field when my opponent has next turn assault advantage on me...which means...if i dun do sumthn agenst him now...next turn im dead....so i'd move my guys up in close order drill rapid fire him with my squads...plus my support squads and hope fer the best...if not...its bayonets at the ready

I`m trying to get a combination of things, 2 russes for assault, 2 veteran squads for defensive and 2 grenadier armoured fists and a hellhound for mobility

Im an assault army, but my definition of what an assault army may be different then what most are thinking. When I think of assault I think of quick moving heavy hitters that are meant to deal a lot of damage fast. To do this for me I use mobility as well Mounted grenadiers, with demolishers and roughriders.

wow...now thats hard hitting, im like complete opposite...fer me its all bout the infantry, bayonets and all....supported by my 4 support squads and kasrkin...well...it depends who i am against but in this scenario it would be good agenst tau and spacemarines

would be cool if u could get bayonets as an upgrade, or bayonette drill skill
but then does hardened fighters already do that?

The Close order drill is the bayonette drill.I don't have my rules handy but unlees it specifically says it the skills and drills are only for guard infantry and hardened vets are not that( unless specafied). I have a few different types of armies and play them differently. My latest one is a drop troops army so it's more mobile i guess. My Valhallen army has alot of static troopers mixed with chimera HQ's, A.F. squads and infiltrating vet squads so it's more of a mix of static and assaulty.

nah, hardend vets are counted as guard infantry. fluff wise, theyre just soldiers of the same regiment who happen to still be alive, so they can get hardened fighters
the only doctrine they cant benefit from is sharpshooters, which only works on any infantry with BS 3
but hardend fighters with vets would bea n interesting mix. you could kit them out with melatguns for a/t and close combat weapons for light infantry

and a power fist for the sarg of course ;P. I am still playing around with my forces to see what I like and what works. Tried a mix of drop troops and light infantry with chem inhalers over the weekend. This seemed to work pretty well, as u can basically put down most of ur army during the infiltrators bit, and then DS any one left over. Being able to infiltrate heavy weapon squads was v nice, so u could make the most of cover that is a little out of ur deployment zone .

I play a defense mostly, I have a good amount of guardsmen set up a nice "roadblock" you could say to slow down the enemy, i use a 10 squad of rattlings to ensure pinning and have also found light infantry good for my army, as they can set up in their "roadblock" faster thanks to infaltrate and they also get snipers to pin. With the line of guardmen to slow em down i let my 2 battle tanks and basilisk do their job. Oh and i also have a few hellhounds which i found are really good for tankshocking, and that heavy flamer can tank out alot (especially since i play against orks alot ) so yeah thats my basic plan of action normally and it does work out many times. I was wondering if anyone here ever tried Armored Company, i've always thought about it but never really wanted to invest the money into an all tank army.

By defensive I mean i play a army that basically sits and shoots the whole game. I have 1 russ and 1 basilisk and i take alot of infatry set them in cover and fire as much las into'em when they get in range. I have one almost every game using that tactic.

dont u guys feel...that sometimes....sitting back, firing at them with whatever gets a tad bit boring...im not saying its bad but...ever thought that a good defense is a great offense!? hehe anyways, i like attacking...but tacticaly attacking...not just running up the board in a charge...but yeah i sometimes switch lists to an all defense army and watch them wade over a line of laser fire =D
