This is just me showing u how i'll set up my platoons are holding the line, my leman russ's are providing ordinance for oncoming enemies, the ratlings r just a point filler of 44 points which are ofcourse outa danger and sniping, my hq is in the middle for my generals leadership, and both my storm tropper squads are in deepstrike to pop down behind whatever i wish to blow to hell (both storm trooper squads have 2 meltas)...... so yeah pretty basic setup which is what i desire..... so what do you guys think?? be mercival lol

seems playable. However it depends...things can definately change during deployment and during games. Wut happens if that enemy of ures is a traitor guard armed with 2 bassies...and manages to get forst turn...thus ending in at leeast 2 squads of guardsmen dead. However i do see that ure strategy is of sitting back and shooting in meat grinder games.

I find that for 'line troops' all you need is 2 minimum sized platoons. unless you've taken the carapace armor doctrine, you don't want ANY troops out in the open since they'll die with no save there.
I was trying to imply that 2 minimum sized platoons are all I can fit in/behind cover typically, though I have 3 heavy weapon squads to fit from my command platoon too, which, by the way, I recommend highly for adding some teeth which which to bite your opponent with to the infantry formation (though this is not optimum if you have the carapace armor doctrine as the small squad size of heavy weapon squads makes for ALOT of wasted points).
it's a great idea to have a line force that is there to hold your turf and provide fire support but you might also consider a mobile aspect to go claim objectives (again, this is unless you have taken the carapace armor doctrine and can advance from cover with your troops and not die outright to rifle fire in which case I can see an army like this with an overabundance of line troops doing well).
