Well, today was the first day i played with my newly fully mechanized guardsmen. I have to say i enjoyed it but did run into some peoblems i would like to get your opinons on.
My first problem was when to unload, i was aginst orks, and was worried to try to get into rapid fire range, seeing as i would be assulted next turn around, and i was also worried about unloading too far away, and not being able to do anything for a turn or 2, wasting waht could be very useful shots, so in the end, only 1 sqaud was actually out of the chimeras, the rest were inside still while the chimeras multi-laser/heavy bolter/heavy stubbers did all the work.
And my other problem was anti tank, i didn't have too much trouble, seeing as he was ork, but the dreadnought was a pain to kill and i know when my space marine freind rolls his land raider up, it'll be nearly impossible to kill, i was hesatent about melta guns, seeing as they have a short range and are best at a very small range of 6", any ideas?

I always take an Armoured fist squad with three heavy bolters and a heavy stubber. This pumps out an amazing amout of medium strengh/low AP shots. Leave AT problems to tooled up grenadier and vet squads. Also multiple mortar squads and basilisks give stable fire support as your AFS race ahead of the main army.

if he's slow, just harrass him with mass anti-infantry fire from the chimerae (9 shots each is good dakka). if he's fast then go for the rapid fire sacrifice. don't expect your dudes to do anything but hop out and dump rounds into the orcs. deploy some dudes a ways out so he has to walk into your guns once you've popped his trukks though. alternately you could try to pop all his trukks then drive off and dismount and gun him down as he walks at you. that seems like a better idea to me!

Just watch for his sweeping advances.. try to stay out of a nice line of attack from his Orcs bouncing from one unit to another.. As far as the mech units go.. do you want all your troops stationed in vehicles? Maybe a few drop troops.. could count as being mech from the plane/ship they dropped out of.. give them meltas and drop them close to the land raiders and what not.. or give them grenade launchers and land them behind large groups of orcs.. now he has to decide.. move forward or go back and kill your new troops that just showed up Make him decide and also make that decision costly.. cheers Gris
