Ok, this thread here is for the discussion of any rumors people have heard about the new rules for the upcoming tyranid codex. Personally I'm not all together too concerned about the models, I'm sure that they will be awesome, I'm more concerned with how the army will work. So here are my questions and what I've heard:
Tyrant is still the number one HQ, broodlord is probably still an HQ and might make Stealers troops (They are supposedly elites now.). Also there might be a zoanthrope-esk new HQ unit like the malanthrope www.forgeworld.co.uk/malan.htm. Malanthrope might make rippers be scoring and winged tyrant might make gargoyles troops.
Trygons are supposedly usable in normal games and are MCs and not GCs now.
Other than that I haven't heard that much yet. One entirely unconfirmed rumor about warriors being able to fill any force org slot and that the army will have more viable anti tank options, but other than that nothing much.
Here are my questions for codex design:
1. How will synapse work? In its current form synapse is dinky and tends to be entirely ignored most games. Nothing is less fun though than having all your synapse die on turn one and watch your army run off the table. So I'm thinking that it will either be done away with to a large extent or that it will become more dynamic along the lines of the IG orders system. I can see several of the current psychic powers being replaced with "hive mind directives" or some such, things like catalyst for example, so that all creatures under synapse can execute one directive that makes them better somehow. That is just a theory though.
2. Warriors. I can see them doing 1 of four things with them. First, they might make warriors a troops choice, but Nids is an army which tends to fill all of its troops slots already so I don't see this happening. Second, they might make them a non-force org slot HQ choice like IG Priests are. This would work but it would be easy to exploit (Whats that, I can have a limitless number of warrior units? KA-SPAM!!!). Third, they might be able to fill any force org slot. This sort of makes sense except that you A) wouldn't take them as anything BUT troops and B) this overlaps other existing units like Ravenors.
My favorite thought on this is that they may go the same way that they did with IG commissars with Warriors and make them an addon to other broods. The number of Warriors that would come with a unit would likely be 1 per 8/10 (ie: multiples of the unit's starting size) and you probably will have to choose to pay for them, though if they came for free as an addon that would be AMAZING. This would likely only work with guant variants, but the wargear options for the warriors would be determined by what sort of guant unit they are a part of (ie: Gargoyle warriors have wings, talons, and a gun. Hormagaunt warriors have 2 sets of talons/talons and rending and leaping. Termagaunt warriors have talons and some sort of gun.). It would also effectively remove the synapse issue, just make a unit with at least 1 living warrior fearless and the rest of the unit leadership 5. They wouldn't need to remain eternal warrior either as you could pawn off wounds onto the gaunts too. The best part by far is that with this method your warriors would come back with endless swarm or whatever its called. This is how I would do it, too bad I'm not writing their codex.
3. Genestealers. Heard a lot of conflicting stuff on these guys, don't know whats going to happen with them. The most interesting theory so far is that the broodlord might be a special character that you upgrade from the unit, agnar rockfist and that trickster guy from the new space wolf book. Again, entirely unconfirmed.
Ok, so what have you guys heard? Feel free to speculate, but remember this is a post about the new rules and not the models, talk about that elsewhere.
