So this means the old codex assassins no longer usable? If you are talking the old 3rd edition then no it isn't usable. Currently, you Must take the Inquisitor Lord in order to bring an assassin in with the army. Nice thing is that you can dump in three mystics and give deep strikers a nice surprise when you pop them if they are in range.

I don't run assassins but a buddy does and we let him use that old assassin codex.

Not only an Inquisitor Lord (HQ choice). Any Inquisitor - Elite or HQ.

Not only an Inquisitor Lord (HQ choice). Any Inquisitor - Elite or HQ. You can only have one elite choice from the allied force, so there is no room for both the elite inquisitor and the assassin. Therefore it must be the inquisitor lord that you take to get an assassin into an IG force.

True. Not paying attention again. An Inquisitor Lord is the only option if you want a single Imperial assassin, or two death cult assasins.

If you use the DH or WH as the parent list you can get away with any inquisitor, but if you are going the way of having the IG as the parent list then only with the Inquisitor lord can you get an assassin in your army.

I'm using Assassins in my force. It works great. Well, at least, my opponents are shooting at the mean, thin, scary-looking Vindicare Assassin hiding behind a tank or in a house.. Thats the point, shoot at the scary killing-machine Assassin, dont bother killing my infantry !! No luck yet with my Vindicare, only thing he's ever done, is getting himself killed by heavy bolters, getting charged by a Warboss on a bike, and, the thing that doesnt count against him: He killed Wazdakka with a turbo-penetrator round ^^
Thinking about swapping the Vindicare for an Eversor Assassin, the maniac's got higher chances of killing the enemy AND killing himself atm, then my Vindicare ... -.-

I'm looking to work in a Culuxes assassin in my army for the larger point games. Combined with the Inq Lord, and the twin Psyker battle squads I am getting a Assault 21 in the shooting phase.
Watch out drop troops.

Or you can be cool take an elite Inquisitor from Witch Hunters codex and an Assassin from the Daemon Hunters codex. The rules simply state you must include AN Inquisitor in your force, not a specific type.

I like Callidus Assassins coupled with weaken resolve on terminator squads shooting them wounding on 2+ with them only getting invulnerable saves with instant death for characters if they're at least 6 psykers in the squad, then charging them with 5 WS 5 S4 I5 attacks that ignore armour and invulnerable saves plus an additional attack which wounds on 4+ but they get a 2+ save against it.

Can an Officio Assassinorum Operative or Daemonhunter Deathcult Assassin be taken as an ally in an army that only has a Witch Hunter Inquisitor (or vice versa)? A. Witch Hunters and Daemonhunters are discrete types of Inquisitor. The Officio Assassinorum Operative or Deathcult Assassin may only be taken in an army that has an Inquisitor from the same Codex."

Please correct me if I'm wrong here, but: In the Daemonhunters Codex, you need an Inquisitor to get an Assassin. Inq Lord + Assassin = legal. In the Witch Hunters Codex, it says the exact same thing, and ALL the Assassins from Daemonhunters are stated in W-H codex. So whats the trouble ? Just use an Inq Lord (D-H or W-H), and get that damned Assassin !! Why make so much of a fuss around it, both codexes got Assassins of the same type, and both Codexes needs an Inquisitor of any type to use an Assassin .. Problem solved ..

Because you are attempting to loop hole the one elite choice rule on allies.
The FAQ even states you can't do it as kaime showed in their post. Quit whining about it. Loophole closed.

Read the Witch Hunters and Daemonhunters codexes. Both got the same Assassins, and both needs an Inquisitor Lord or regular Inquisitor to use an Assassin, so why bother? Rules states clearly that you need an Inquisitor (of any rank) to use an Assassin. Why would you use a Daemonhunter Assassin in your Witch Hunter army, when the Witch and Daemonhunter Assassins are all the same ??

Unless there's a newer FAQ then the one from 2004 I'm using. www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m1180153_Daemonhunters_FAQ_2004-08_5th_Edition.pdfThere's the link, top of pg3 for anyone who doesn't believe me.

Look in the Witch Hunters codex .. They've got Death-Cult Assassins too. Read your codexes better next time, learn to understand the meaning of the writing and the rules, and then it might be easier to understand that Witch- and Daemonhunters are both part of the Inquisition, so both would have access to the same types of Assassins, not just Officio Assassinorum, but Death-Cult too

It is a simple mistake with a simple understanding. The point is, the Assassin doesnt care what part of the Inquisition he's helping, but you still have to pick either the Hereticus or Malleus (at the moment, at least) Inquisitor to get one. Or in the case of Death-Cults, 1-9. My point here, is that it might be a good idea to look at what HQs, Elites, Troops and stuff that the Inquisition got in common, and see which units both can use, at the simple choice of Inquisitor
