I am thinking about making a assaulty command squad for my IG army due to some new commisars and priests i got, and I was wondering how to keep it alive and get them into combat. I'm not sure if it's cost-effective to mount the squad in a Chimera. I generally play against MEQs.

well, my opponents generally regard my "other" troops as being dangerous, simply because theyre the ones doing the firing. My lemun russes are always a concern to my opponents. Basically you want your command squad to advance along with maybe 2 other assault units, keeping up the pressure.

Mount them in a chimera, don't spare the wargear if you want them to live, run two of them together with an Armoured Fist Squad as a sacrificial speed bump, and a demolisher and hell hound as support

Also make sure to get the close order drill discipline. That +1 int won me a lot of assaults in my last tourney.

Keep the squad out of enemy LOS and let them other guys come to you. Priest, CC/LasPistol on almost all of the guys. Go for the Eviscerator and Powerfist/pistol on the JO. Close order drill would be great.

Also make sure to get the close order drill discipline. That +1 int won me a lot of assaults in my last tourney. COD only works for Infantry platoons, therefore will not effect the Command squad of a command platoon. If u want CC, add a as many advisors as possible, evisorator for the preist, power fist for commisaar and force weapon on a Honourificus emp souped up psyker. Add vets if u can afford it, and take mostly cc las pistols, assault weapons like flamers, nade launchers and melta guns will with worth while depending who ur facing.

I'd recomend HsO: Power fist OR Power sword and Bolt pistol 2 Commisars: Power sword and plasma pistol/Bolt pistol 2 Priests: Escivator, Bolt pistol, one with Holy Relic 1 Plasma gun 1 Melta gun 2 Medics 1 Psyker: Honorifica Imperilis, Force weapon, Bolt Pistol Chimera with multi-laser Commisar Yarrick
Reasons: HsO: Power fists are good, but expensive and low Intiative Commisar(s): If you have two in the squad, then get rid of the other plasma gunner, and make him a flamer Priest: Never used them, but Escivator and sounds good against vechiles, I belive it should become a heavy close combat weapon, but, there just a normal one, meh... Melta gun: dear god, these kill you, seriously, I'd reccomend these SO much, kill the smurfs Medics: To protect the plasma guys, NEVER HAVE MORE THAN TWO MEDICS, AND TWO PLASMA GUNMEN (i.e, 1 Commisar with plasma pistol, one plasma gunner means other Commisar gets a bolt pistol) Psyker: Good and cheap, the wargear makes him expensive, but SO good at killing Chimera: Good and cheap, these give you a good way of transporting your guys Commisar Yarrick: Makes the group fearless, gets 4 base attacks, add one when he charges, add one with double close combat weapons (laspistol and power fist) add his bald eye, total: 7 attacks, one on normal initiative (bald eye) rest hit last, but kill instantly (str 8) normally
All in all, total of men: 11, so another could fit in the Chimera (i.e a Inquistion lord if you have Witch hunter allies, a Techpriest if you've got points to waste etc.)

2 Commisars: Power sword and plasma pistol/Bolt pistol 2 Priests: Escivator, Bolt pistol, one with Holy Relic You can't have two of the same advisors in the same command squad. The Advisors rule on pg 40 of the codex ensures this. By all accounts this command squad is illegal.

Only have at max. 3 JOs, and have any spare Commisars to the SO, anyway, it SHOWS you in the codex a pic of two psykers in the same squad

In a White dwarf (i don't know which one ) it shows a Vostroyan Command Squad with TWO (2) heavy weapons in a command squad and after all the Guard players at my club got together and discussed it, it seems that it was illegal so Games Workshop do make mistakes for "asthetic" reasons
