For 24pts you can equip all four of your guardsmen in a CS with flamers. In the last game I played I torched at least 2 Termies and at least 8 marines and that is only one example. Have I just been getting lucky or has anyone else used this type of squad and had simmilar results?

I don't use a command platoon, I use a special weapons squad. I have had similar results though.

I'm almost positive that you can't use a Special Weapons squad in place of a command platoon (seeing as they're part of the command platoon). But, anyway, flamers have approximately an 8% chance of killing each terminator that it hits. Against marines, it's 16%.

i like the idea of 4 flamers. especially when using droptroopers against horde armies. might result in lots of toasted nidz/orks

die greenskins!!! i have a 2 flamer com squad. last game against chaos and SM's his khorne lord was faced with 2 guardsmen squads and a com squad, i fired a shot gun, 13 lasgun shots, a melta shot, a bolt pistol, 1 krak missile. NOT ONE WOUNDED HIM!!! in the end it took a flamer to wound him. funny story huh? in that match the lord had 4 wounds, in one round of shooting the SM scouts shot at him with their bolt pistols and scored 2 WOUNDS, then i wounded him with the flamer and then the khorne lord killed himself with his deamon weapon.

Good kill against the sworn enemy! How'd the rest of the battle go? Yeah, I've discovered that when opponents are marching towards you and taking a hell of a beating from your heavy weapons they tend to forget about these five little guys that aren't doing anything. Hold them behind your lines and when the enemy closes jump out and roast a couple. Any other good uses of the flame thrower or good tales let me know.

Is a gd option, altho I tend to do the same but with nade launchers, excellent agasint t3 armies (have played a fair bit agasint sisters, that liked being in base to base).
Do love flamers tho, and they work fine, but I find the range can get ur guys killed before they fire when trying to DS, and also if 2 flamers can't get the job done, then I haven't found upping it to 4 to help much. i.e. either every ones dead already, or their armour is just too tough. Having said that, it is a gret way to force armour saves.
End of the day, u really can't fault a squad of 5 guys when 4 have special weapons, especially if u EMP HON up ur JO, add commissar and add a plasma pistol to each.

use them as drop troopers deep strike them next to something with squishy armor and roast them oh yes, this will seriusly damage both the models morale AND the enemy commander. speaking of experience. (He bet he cried that night)

Depending on who I'm playing but if it's against 'Nids, anything with pointy ears, Tau or Orks, I have a Command HQ of 4 Granade Launchers, plus I equip both my Platoon command squads with 4 flamers and in general I always field an FW Artemia pattern Hellhound, although I have just bought another (Graia pattern) so will probably drop the 2x6 man Stromtrooper squads for a second Hellhound.
This works especially well in Cities of Death scenarios.

Flamers are dirt cheap, auto-hit, and get at LEAST 2-3 hits in on a standard squad, so they make for great suicide charges.

And being a guardsman is pretty much suicide to begin with, so hey, why not make the most of it?

In my catachan force my HQ command squad has 3 flamers 1 heavy flamer. My first infantry platoon command squad had 1 heavy flamer 3 flamers. My second infantry platoon command squad has 4 flamers.
This gives a total of 2 heavy flamers and 10 flamers between 3 squads.

LOL, you can't deny the fact that toasting the enemy with about a trillion flamers is fun.

I tried this last night in our current store campain. Command with 2 flamers. Made their points back and then some. My armored fist with a flamer did the same when they flamed some harlies that had just disenbarked from thier wave serpent. I'm definatly going to be adding alot more flamers to my army very soon.

Even against armored units the flame thrower can be quite the powerful weapon, especially if you can get in on the flank of a unit. Throw down two templates or so you're getting 10-15 some hits (on a marine tac. sq.). Roll the dice out on that and you'll come up at least as well as if all your plasma hit. You also don't run the risk of killing yourself.

I tried this combination a couple of days ago against Chaos - dropped the squad right behind his concealed Basilisk (fortune favours the brave you know), rolled well for scatter and landed about 3" behind the tank. That tank never fired a shot afterwards - got to love open topped vehicles being filled with fire!

Nice to know the most commonly sprued plastic weapon is handy in close quarters. I'm a great believer in flamers when it comes to CoD and laying down on Eldar Rangers (+1 save, how helpful?!?). I like to field at least two Hellhounds supporting a heavy flamer packed chimera full of Command squad "toasters" as a flanking unit.
This works equally well in normal W40k if you manage to draw their army to one side, and have damaged their Heavy weapons output by turn 2 or three.
Has anyone fielded Sentinels with H Flamers? Are they a waste of time in CoD or normal 40k?
