This is not what I'm sure most of these posts are, but I figure I'll post here anyways.
The Army I most often play against are Dark Angels. Now the problem isn't that I can't beat them, the problem is that I beat them too frequently, and am worried my mate will be discouraged. I'm not a very competitive person, and while my army list is fairly competitive (gunline, equipment free-officers providing leadership, heavy and special weapons in every squad, lots of plasma) I was wondering, what are some strategies that have been used against you Guard players by Dark Angels that have been effective? What are some tactics that are effective? He drop pods, deepstrikes terminators, deepstrikes assault squads with chaplains and meltas, and has tried an awful lot. I just seem to trounce the poor guy, way more consistently than I ought to.

Anything that pins guard while putting pieplates down is deadly effective. You can render two or even three squads completely immobile with multiple pinning tests while taking out ten-twenty Guard at a time.

Land raider crusaders chew through guard. Also, try not taking demolioshers or baskies-they crump smurfs.

Whirlwinds with Incindiary Missiles = wound on 3s and no save for guard infantry, even in cover. Then Drop Pod, Drop Pod, Drop Pod. Just these two tips alone should make it very hard for you to beat DA.

When I played DA I noticed: -Lots of scout snipers wrecked havoc as it pins and wounds easily. -Whirlwinds good but watch for armor trying to take them out. -Devestator squads to butcher enemy infantry with heavy bolters or vehicles with LasCannons or Meltas.

Well I would like to help you out, for I play both the imperial guard and the Dark Angles, well i could give you some basic tactics but I would most likely, based on the rough description of units that are described, his deployment could have something to do with it, if i am right and this is from your description of his tactics he is dropping his assault and terminator squads in to the heart of your army. That to me is a timing error or does he try to soften then up from a distance first with devastators? also how does he use terrain ? There are many tactics, but you could try doing this and you will see what i mean try getting him in a 2 on 2 game agents someone and i think you will start to see what i mean about it could be his timing on using his tactics. But when i play ass dark angles vs. guards well using the battle squads rule the devastator squads get divided up in to 2 groups 1 with bolters as a mop up and support unit the other in cover raining death. I like using Belial as my HQ I think you know what happens my main tactic scouts with heave bolters and sniper rifles go to town with deviators battle squads soften up the guards man with the death wing as the end game. But on a more general level try these uk.games-workshop.com/spacemarines/tactica-scouts/1/

Well I just had a afterthought that my help instead try this playing one game with him as normal and then using the same terrain configuration swap sides and let him play your army and you play his and then you may see the true flaws in either his army or his playing style.
