So, after pouring over Codex: Space Wolves these past two weeks I've finally decided to play them!
I'm aiming to play a bit of a fluff-based army; leaning towards Grimnar's company at the moment.
So here's the list I've put together, let me know what everyone thinks.
+ Logan Grimnar, The Great Wolf [275]
+ Wolf Priest [125] - Jump Pack
+ Wolf Priest [100]
+ Wolf Guard Pack [372] - Wolf Guard in Terminator Armor with Frost Axe and Storm Shield - Wolf Guard in Terminator Armor with Wolf Claw and Storm Shield - Wolf Guard in Terminator Armor with Wolf Claw and Storm Shield - Arjac Rockfist, The Anvil of Fenris - Drop Pod
+ Wolf Guard Pack [320] - Wolf Guard in Terminator Armor with Wolf Claw and Storm Shield - Wolf Guard in Terminator Armor with Frost Axe and Storm Shield - Wolf Guard in Terminator Armor with Power Weapon and Storm Shield - Wolf Guard in Terminator Armor with Power Fist and Assault Cannon - Wolf Guard in Terminator Armor with a pair of Wolf Claws - Drop Pod
+ Space Wolves Venerable Dreadnought [215] - Drop Pod, Extra Armor
+ Grey Hunters [185] - 10x Grey Hunters; 2 with Flamers - Drop Pod
+ Blood Claws [225] - 15x Blood Claws; 2 with Flamers
+ Skyclaw Assault Pack [195] - 10x Skyclaws; 1 with Power Weapon
Total: 2022 ----------------------------------
As previously stated, this is fluff-based, it's meant to work strategically too but some things are here for pure fun and fluff.

I like it, but I'm a bit surprised you didn't give the Lone Wolf the outflanking Saga (can't remember the name now).
How are you going to model Bjorn the mega-dread, and those 5 thunderwolves with boltpistol and cc?

Not sure yet, the Bjorn conversion shouldn't be TOO difficult but I'm lost on the Thunderwolves...
By the way, the codex says that Space Wolves can take 4 HQs in standard games but no two "characters" can take the same saga. Does this mean I cannot take Ragnar as well as a Wolf Guard Battle Leader with Saga of the Warrior Born?
Does character mean any HQ or special characters? Does the rule of sagas apply with named characters? I'm confused...

Hetlan is a Troll.... quickly while he's made of stone.. *grabs a hammer* blackarmchair - It's simple. You can't have any HQ choices with the same psychic power combos, equipment combos or Sagas. You can't have Logan Grimnar and Njal Stormcaller in the same army as they both have the Saga of Majesty, for example. Wolf Guard aren't characters, so I guess you can have 5 Wolf Guard termies all with wolf claws.

Well in the codex it says special characters don't count for that rule...

OK... so maybe it ISN'T so simple... Actually that's good news. A friend of mine has Njal and Logan, so at least he CAN use them together. So if that is the case then you can have Ragnar and a WGBL with Saga of the Warrior Born as well. It's a good Saga to help you take down Tarpit guard combined squads, but that is the ONLY application I see it working.. You can't just skip from one close combat to another, now so I guess it only works on huge protracted combats. Ragnar always takes hundreds down in the books anyway. Now I'm intrigued - I'll have to look this up now.

Yeah, it's for the generic SCs. A nifty bit of actual brain usage at GW. No spamming Jaws of the World Wolf all over the place...
I wouldn't mind Jawas of the World Wolf, though...

Well Saga of the Warrior Born CAN be useful. Say you get charged, whether you destroy the whole squad or stick you're going to get extra attacks. Basically any time you're in close-combat on your opponent's turn you can get some extra attack business going on.

I wouldn't mind Jawas of the World Wolf, though... The Sand People of 40k died mysteriously when they came into contact with the Tau. Sand People = walk in straight lines Tau = Railguns blackarmchair - you could take 10 Swiftclaw bikers instead of the Thunderwolves if the prospect of converting them is daunting. You were right about the SC rule, so you can take Ragnar and a Wolf Lord with Saga of the Warrior Born.
