How much long-range firepower is normal /needed for a 2000 pts IG hunker-down-and-shoot army? My catachan force (who basically hug jungles using 4+ cover save and shoot at the enemy as they approch) contains a totally of: 7 missile launchers, 4 HBs, 5 autocannons, 2 battlecannons, 1 demolisher cannon and a multilaser. Is this enough?
In short: how much long-range firepower do i need to ensure that i can a) contend with a shooty army and b) sufficently soften up a close-up army before they reach me? This is talking about a 2000 pts game.
All relavent comments much appreciated.

I'd say that's ample, I wouldn't want to have to fight an army like that! I'm guessing your using the IG codex with the Jungle fighters doctrine?
If so I'd invest in perhaps a couple of Lascannon totting Sentinels, these, I would imagine would be brilliant in a densly packed jungle board down to their speed and walker rules. These could easily box in and flank enemy tanks and even slow moving infantry and walkers.
You seem to have plenty of anti-personnel guns, perhaps a few Heavy bolter wielding support squads for those pesky nid' hordes?

I have 4 lascannons, 4 rocket launchers, 6 heavy bolters, 2 battlecannons, 1 Inferno Cannon, 1 Multilaser on my newest 1500 points list.
As far as i've played, i have discovered the following "rules":
I'd say for heavy weapons u need about the ammount of points divided by 100: i.e. 1500 points=15+ hvy weapons, 2k =20+ hvy weapons.
U also need a number of melta/plasma/flamers as special weapons, for closer range and/or mobility, about 10/15 are enough.
Also your total(as in, combined special/hvy) AP 1/2 weapons must be at least 8( i have 16), and your Str 7+ weapons must be at leat 10(15 in 2k), and must be able to theoretically produce 20+ shots total, so that it can practicaly produce 10+ shots when having obstacles/difficulties by the opponent's tactics abd/or cover. (my list can theoritically produce 26 at 1500)

Thanks for your comments. In terms of close range special weapons i have 2 hardened vet squads each with 3 melta guns. Between my 3 command squads i have 2 heavy flamers and 9 flamers.
I suppose it is down to your tactics. My general tactics involve a counter attack of sorts on the opposite flank of my firebase using mounted ogryn sqyad, infiltrating hardened vets and a demolisher so i am not going to have as many HWs as a cadian force for example.
Thank you for your comments however, they have put my force into perspective. Further comments would be welcome.

good way to include HWeapons in a jungle fighters/counterattacking army is Sentinels. (note:i actually... well... ATTACK usually, even against space marines and some 'nids, though it is mainly done by executing a specific maneuver in 3 steps.the first of 3 involves "bait" units, 2nd is bombardment of exposed enemy heavy stuff in one side of table(thats why hvy weapons are needed) 3rd is secure said table side with tanks/transports/mounted infantry/deepstriking units(half of list is mobile in some way or another, they abondone(lol!) the slow support squads to their fate if it helps to win!). in my last game vs Space Marines that "side" was the table center , in my previous vs Eldar it was their left flank, etc. etc.
