Ok first off, this is a list that I have not used yet in a game, and I have only been playing for about a month or so. If I make any big mistakes please tell me. Also I'm not sure how to set up my inquisitor, I know they are not the best but I still want to field one. Thanks.
Imperial Guard - 975
HQ Company Command Squad Regimental Standard Medi-pack Vox Carpace Armor
Troops (1) Veterans Carpace Armor
Troops (2) Platoon Command Squad Heavy Bolter 2 Plasma gun Vox 2 Infantry Squads Vox Heavy Weapons Squads Lascannon 2 Auto Cannons
Heavy Support Demolisher Lascannon Plasma Cannon Heavy Stubber Pask Leman Russ Lascannon Heavy Bolters Heavy Stubber
Witch Hunters - 526
HQ Inquisitor Lord Scourging Bolter-plasma Psycannon Bolts Rosarious Auspex Gun Servitor with Plasma Cannon Gun Servitor with Heavy Bolter 3 Acolytes Power Armor Bolter 2 Sages Chirurgen
Fast Attack 5 Dommion Squad 4 Flamers Immolator Multi-melta Holy icon
And that's it. My plan is to deploy the guard as a gun line, and have the vets move and capture objectives. The immolator/dommion squad are to kill transports, the immolator pops them and the dommions torch what ever comes out. My biggest problem is I don't know what to do with my inquisitor. I think I want him to be more shooty because if I do bad on an assault half my retinue dies. However there is not ranges weapon that seem to be good to take. My thought was to bolter people until they get into Scourging range. Thanks for reading.

drop the vets with carp armor feild sisters instead. I personaly would divy up the heavy weapons into the squads. give the squads (all ) at th very least assault weapons. the voxes ditch at lest one of them .

Ok, if I drop the vets and carp, I would have to make a second infantry platoon to meet the 1 HQ 2 troops requirement. Second I thought it would be better to keep all lasguns so I can get big first rank fire rolls. I figured that the special weapons on the other stuff (tanks and such) would be better. What assault weapons do you suggest? Thanks.

i thought you were fielding a second platoon. also drop pask, the stubbers, one of the tanks to feild enough troops to actualy hold objectives. in the end your hq 2 platoons = about 700 a tank will put it at around 900 ditch the inquisitor all together feidl a cannoness with retuine and a squad of sisters

are you desperate to have an Inquisitor Lord, or would an elite Inquisitor be ok? EIther way, best way to run them is to load up for close combat (3 crusaders, acolytes with power weapon/carapace, familiar, and possibly medics). Obviously elites Inquisitors limit the henchmen rather alot, but have the advantage of being nicely cheaper. For the Lord, strongly consider a force weapon!
I like to field an Inquisitor with my guard irrespective of the Inquisitors innately poorer performance. They can work, and can REALLY help against psykers (*cough* Space Wolves *cough*) and the fact that they can CHOOSE to pass or fail moral tests makes them good for holding enemies up.

I'll make some suggestions based on what you already have...as it's always discouraging to write up a list and have someone tell you to swap the entire thing with something else. (However...if you don't actually own any of this and you are trying to figure out what to buy I could make other suggestions.)
Take those two plasmaguns in the platoon command squad and give them to the vets with carapace...the extra armor will help with gets hot rolls and the BS4 will allow them to actually hit with those critical special weapons.
give the lascannon to the CCS(BS4!) and either give the autocannons to the infantry squads or group them in a heavy weapon squad with the heavy bolter.(3 autocannons would be better.)
Give your battle sisters a veteran superior and give her book of st lucius as wargear...it pretty much does amazing things.

It's kinda mandatory what with the epic gap in editions between the codex and the core rules.
