I would like to build some terrain for use in 40k battles I was wondering if anyone had any ideas or suggestions of pieces of terrain that I can make out of wood, IG bitz, and every day around the house items(I say this because the budget for this project is $0.00) so any suggestions?
edit: GW used to have an article about building things out of tin cans anyone else remember how to do that

My advice is lay your hands on any rubbish before it goes in the bin / recycling. Almost the only stuff not worth keeping is the organic waste (e.g. potato peelings)! Keep a special eye out for any electrical goods about to be disposed of - dismantle these as there are usually all sorts of goodies inside and the cases can be cut down or used as they are as the basis for buildings. Look here commissar.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=terrain&action=display&thread=9099 as I will post some pictures of a Bunker I made from an old VCR, some bitz from old models, old computer parts, and packaging...

I know your budget is $0, but if you want to get semi-serious about terrain you'll want to get a big sheet of polystyrene (foam insulation).
For about 5 bucks at Home Depot you can get a decent sized sheet, and you can make tons of different things out of it.
Also, cardboard works, but its not as sturdy.

Toilet paper rolls can be easily made into a sewerage system, and if you're willing to spend a tiny amount of money, PVC is extraordinary for making pipes and tubing.
