I've been working on a table now for a couple weeks and could use some advice on walls for a large fort. The table is 6ft long 4ft wide and in 2ft x 4ft section. I'm making one section right now that will have a fort on it about 20x20in. For the walls I'm debating on palisade or stone with palisade on top. The palisade I already have ready to glue down but I'm not sure whether it will look too great.. However the stone work is something I'm not sure how to do. Any tips and tricks that could help me make easy stone walls? Thanks! Nox

It all depends on the material you are using.
If you are using the pink insulation foam then you can just etch the stone work in with a woodburner or soldering iron. Then apply a thin coat of pva glue to the foam prior to painting.
IF you are using foam core then you will want to take a sheet of plasticard or cardstock and cut the shape of the stones out and glue them in place.
Another method is to take a piece of foam core and glue in place stones and use a plaster of paris for mortar.
Any of the three methods will look great either way you do it.
I might be able to help out more if I knew the material you are using.

I don't have that locked down quite yet. I bought some 3/4in pink foam, i have foamcore, and plenty of plastic card from paper thin to 1/8in i think. My original plan was balsa wood covered in plaster and carve out rocks... But that is unrealistic for this project. Next thought was simply add plasticard blocks to foamcore to give the impresion of stone. Then there was cut pink foam into blocks and build it that way.
which do you think is the most effective, convincing, and strong?
Thanks! Nox

Excellent advice from SSGTDUDE! For myself, when using pink insulation foam, and not having the tools Ssgtdude suggests, I use a dull point pencil to carve the lines. Not pushing hard to make the lines in one shot, but slowly passing the pencils 2-3 time so not to ripp the foam. Here's a castle I made back in the time I was WFB using the pink foam...Lucky the Emperor made me see the light since then. And this inspired from the Vampire codex: As you can see, after it's modeled, it's easy with a paint job to make it looks like real stone, I think.

Excellent work there. The pencil trick seemed to do well for you.
IF you use the soldering Iron or woodburner you have to watch out for it will melt the foam quickly if you are not careful and make the lines much deeper than you wanted if you are not careful. Until you get your hand at it I would go with the pencil trick the chwinn used.
Again chwinn excellent pics of your work looks great.
