Heroes: 165 Pts Thane w/Pistol, Oath Stone -- Runic Hand Weapon (+2S, +1I) -- Runic Armor (1+ Armor Save) -- Runic Talisman (Immune to Fire)
Core: 730 Pts Dwarf Warriors: Musician, Standard Bearer -- 24 Warriors w/Shields -- Veteran w/Shield
Dwarf Thunderers: Musician -- 14 Thunderers w/Shield -- Veteran w/Shield
Dwarf Thunderers: Musician -- 14 Thunderers w/Shield -- Veteran w/Shield
Special: 105 Pts Stone Thrower: -- Engineer -- Rune of Reloading
The main idea is to put the stone thrower on a hill behind the Warriors, and have it constantly fire throughout the game blocked by the body of warriors. The Thunderers are on either side of the warriors. The Oath Stone should make the warriors rather hard to remove.
Heroes: 120 Pts Thane w/Oath Stone -- Runic Hand Weapon (Flaming) -- Runic Armor (1+ Armor Save) -- Runic Talisman (Immune to Fire)
Core: 880 Pts Dwarf Warriors: Musician, Standard Bearer -- 24 Warriors w/Shields -- Veteran w/Shield
Dwarf Thunderers: Musician -- 20 Thunderers w/Shield -- Veteran w/Shield
Dwarf Thunderers: Musician -- 20 Thunderers w/Shield -- Veteran w/Shield
This second list sacrifices the stone throwers and some of the thane's equipment for more Thunderers, but I'm unsure how wise that is.

I prefer the first list as there is frankly no need for that many ranged troops as 40. I advice making the Thundered units in the first list two of 10 each instead of 14, or possibly two of 15 to make them slightly useful in combat (15 rather than 14 gives you an extra rank bonus as long as you havne't taken any casualties). If you decrease the units I'd personally drop some stuff from your Thane (probably give him a mundane great weapon rather than anything magical, you have Ini 3 and will strike last most of the time anyway) and buy a smaller unit of Warriors or Miners to work as a supportive melee unit.
If you want to use the second list I'd either give both Thunderer units a full command to make them slightly able in close combat, or split them up in units of 10 to get a more flexible and maximised arc of fire.

The stone thrower is probably what makes the first list better.

Stone Throwers aren't great, they miss a lot more than they hit and can't kill much. Remember, you need to cover the entirety of the base for an automatic hit, all others are hit on 4+. On S4. No armour saves, but still rather weak unless you're lucky.

Here's the revised list:
Heroes: 139 Pts Thane w/Great Weapon, Oath Stone -- Runic Armor (1+ Armor Save, Re-Roll Failed Saves)
Core: 571 Pts Dwarf Warriors: Musician, Standard Bearer -- 23 Warriors w/Shields -- Veteran w/Shield
Dwarf Thunderers: Musician -- 9 Thunderers w/Shields -- Veteran w/Shield
Dwarf Thunderers: Musician -- 9 Thunderers w/Shields -- Veteran w/Shield
Special: 290 Pts Cannon -- Engineer -- Rune of Reloading, Rune of Forging
Cannon -- Engineer -- Rune of Reloading, Rune of Fortune
[Thunderers][Warriors][Thunderers] _______[Cannon][Cannon]
The Cannons are placed upon a hill, behind the block of warriors.

Hmm.. With only one block of close combat units you're basically relying on dumb luck to cause enough panic tests to have the majority of the opponent's army fleeing or dying by shooting. Since you can't actually manoeuvre the warriors in that formation, I could just concentrate my movement on one or both of your flanks, attacking and breaking the thunderers, pursuing into the cannon crew. Even if I don't, you still only have one block and two mediocre 10-man units to battle off my 3-4 units and flanking cavalry (assuming I play any team with a fairly normal unit selection). Dwarves are tough in combat, but in all honesty this list isn't hard to beat if your shooting fails you or if I take skirmishers/flyers.

Maybe, but then it's difficult to fit in more than one block at this points level and still make use of thunderers. I could fit in another block at 1250 probably, probably longbeards.

You can drop the re-roll able save rune on the Thane, drop the shields and the (nigh useless) Veterans for the Thunderers, some of the runes for the cannons and their Engineers and possibly one of the cannons themselves. Could also drop the Warriors down to 19. That should give you enough points to buy another 15 or 20 Miners or Warriors.
Adding a unit of Longbeards isn't a bad idea, it's just that your current list is rather weak. Exchanging one of the cannons for an organ gun would be a great help against skirmishers and infantry.

Actually the idea on the veterans for the Thunderers is to give them a brace of pistols and make it so that they have a better chance of stand and shoot as a charge reaction.
As it was explained to me:

Yeah, your pistols only recieve the normal -1 for multiple shots and ignore the stand and shoot penalty. On BS3. Hits on 5's, and it's just one additional shot than you would get from a unit with all handguns, who would probably get 2 or 3 more shots during the game. Stand and shoot isn't a threat unless you're lucky really.
Veterans with pistols are rather cool though, and not very expensive, so keep them if you like them.
