I´ve no idea except what the old Codex said. Basically the Junior Officer of today was a Lieutenant then, the Senior Officer a Captain and the Heroic Senior officer´s stats are those of the old Colonel.
But there are probably a few more ranks between there..?

I've done a little work on this recently, and it seems that the highest demobilised command is regimental, ie. Colonel. Therefore, it follows that HSOs are most likely to be Colonels.
From the old 3rdEd Codex, Junior Officers normaly command platoons and are given as lieutenants and a 2000pt army will normally be commanded by a Senior Officer, or captain. Picking a Heroic Senior Officer represents the regimental commander being present at a company level.
Furthermore, in times of strife like Black Crusades and the like, it occurs that staff ranks of General Officers permenantly subjugated to the Departmento Munitorium assume control of higher formations; the only mentions of which seem to skip brigades entirely and go straight to regiments grouped together into Corps (commanded by the lower-ranking general officers), aranged geographicaly into Army Groups like the Red Army (commanded by more senior generals, ie. Colonel General). These AGs come under the overall command of a formation commander of some rank like Marshal or Marshal Captain. That would encompass about 60 regiments in normal circumstances, anything more than that would engender the appointment of a Warmaster or Lord Solar or other such office.
In one old WD, rules are given for an IG High Commander of ranks like Generals, so it seems HSOs won't be higher than Colonels.

Last time I checked it says in the codex you can call them what ever you want but the most common are Junior = Lieutenant, Senior= Major or Captain, HSO= Colonel or general

Current Millitary Ranking in the Air Force/Army for Officers is as follows
2nd Lieutenant (Butter Bar) 1st Lieutenant (Silver Bar) Captain Major Lieutenant Colonel Colonel Brigadier General Major General Lieutenant General General
General of the Army/Air force
In some Military Forces beyond the U.S. Ranks then come the Field Marshal which is equal in rank to the US General of the Army/Air Force.
Not all countries have the same ranks. It should be noted that Iceland and Luxemburg do not have a equivalent Ranks above the US Colonel for their Army. Then of Course you all have your Warrant Officers which also fit into the Junior Officer Ranks
With that being all said this leaves you with this... Junior Officers are the Lieutenant and Captain Senior Officers are your Majors Through General (Colonel for Iceland and Luxemburg)
Heroic Seniors are those who have distinguished themselves in Battle against Odds. Most Senior Officer in the the Guard know about against Odds.
According to what I have read a Brigadier General is usually in charge of two Regiments, the Major General will be in charge of a Division (e.g. Infantry, or Armored), Lieutenant General will be in command of a Corp or Army (Army Corp of Engineers, Armored Corp, Air Corp), and finally the General will be in charge of an Army Group or theater of operation. (Pacific, Europe, Mobile Air Command Vietnam, etc...)
Then the General of the Army is in charge of the whole kit and caboodle.
The only reason the US did not adopt the use of Field Marshal was because in 1944 when George C Marshall Army Chief of staff would have been given the Rank and would have been known as Marshal Marshall. Sort of like Major major from Catch-22.
GW does give you the freedom to create your own military rank and structure. Remember this is a time of war and Field promotions are not uncommon in the heat of a battle. So are field Demotions according to the commissar looking over my shoulder.

On a side note: Heroic senior officers are just senior officers taht have distiquished themselves (so they are both captains/colonels...) A General is still called the same in 40k...
