What should I give all my officers and commissar/s. I don't plan on getting my Guard into CC so I don't want to "deck" them out. I was thinking that maybe a stormbolter would be cool for them, so they can shoot a little better then the rest of the guys for 5pts and then a power weapon for another 5pts(thinking maybe just a CC weapon).
Any suggestions would be great!
Thanks ;D

anything 5pts or less is worthwhile in my book. anything over 5pts in cost is quite an investment - I'd do a powerfist for a commissar since he's not an independent character - that'd be a worthy investment since he essentially comes with 'ablative wounds' with not being able to be singled out in melees as other independent characters are.

I usually put on the basic power weapon and plasma pistol/laspistol/bolt pistol, make up the rest of my army amd if there is any points left over than I can add extra stuff to my officers

I'm a big fan of the Plasma Pistol/Power Weapon myself. However, and I see their point, many of my SM playing friends question the usefulness of a power weapon in the hands of someone with S3...
For me, though, looks win out in this case.

plasma pistol on a 2 wound officer would be good but a 1 wound officer is too important in my army for a gun that may kill him

I do prefer basic weapons for my officers in order to give more options for the rest of my troups. I usually give a stormbolter or boltgun (yes I like shooting!!)

I'm just too lazy to cut the plasma pistol of my commander and put something else on there, is all. One day i'll do it.

I gave my HSO a plasma pistol and powerfist... right now anyway. And Carapace armour. He has nothing else, the only other things are my Commissars.

Lasgun/Autogun (Codex: Catachans only), Boltgun, in any other case laspistol/autopistol and power weapon. Additional equipemt depending on the mission and the fluff ;D

I give my senior officer the power weapon/plasma pistol combo, as his better BS makes the gun more accurate. Plus it's the slick plasma pistol from the Forge World accesory set. My JO's get either a power fist or a storm bolter, depending on wether they are getting into people's faces or giving supporting fire.

All my stormtrooper veteran sarges have plasma pistols because their BS makes it worth while, and since theyre all designed to be in combat sooner or later, they have power weapons... theyre not really officers, but about the closest thing to it without actually having an Officers rank.

My JO's get either a power fist or a storm bolter, depending on wether they are getting into people's faces or giving supporting fire. how do powerfists on JOs work? I've been tempted to try that out lately. officer equipment really needs to be tailored to your doctrines in my humble opinion. if you've got melee doctrines like chem-inhalers, close order drill, die-hards, and/or hardened fighters then your officers are less there for morale purposes and more there for their combat prowess. if this is the case, then an officer is really defined by his gear. what options does he have available to him that will make him valuable? I would offer that only officers can have things like powerswords/fists, so maybe that's the best option for how to equip them. if you've got iron discipline in your doctrine list, then your officers are likely playing a vital role conveying leadership to nearby squads. if this is the case then laspistol and chainsword, bolt pistol/chainsword, bolter, stormbolter - the more shooty options are probably better for these officers. the logic being that since officers are able to be picked out in a melee, you want to make them unattractive melee targets. you need to make your enemy say 'meh that guy sucks, why would I want to single him out? nah, I'll just attack your squad instead so I don't waste attacks.' this will allow your Iron Discipline to remain functional through a melee more often than not.

In my old army i gave my JO's power fist and the guardsmen i gave flamers. It recks in city fight and if you get that close it is a beast in open feild. and turtle to awnser your question i only used the Pwr fist for A-T and it worked preaty well. i would suggest doing it ;D

powerfist and hardened fighters seems really attractive (however extremely expensive) for officers if you're not using them for their morale.

I really haven't been impressed with powerswords. powerfists seem very promising however.

I really want some power claws in my army. So much so that I'm working on including a Deamon hunter inquisitor so I can take one lol. Is starting to look pretty evil tho. Master crafted power claws (reroll to hit and to woound , and one of the powers that gives a ST5 D6 Assult attack on the charge. Take a few Deamon hosts too, and that'll ulk up the CC aspect of my army. Only question left is power armour or terminator and what to take as a retinue....

if you're gonna invest the points in grey knights, terminators are probably 'more bang per buck' pointwise.

One of my brothers has GreyKnights, so I'm gonna have a play around taking a squad of grey knights some time. If you take deamon host, which I like the idea of, the inquisitor is branded a herotic so you can't take grey knights as well. . It's the armour for the inquisitor I can't decide on. terminator would be best I recon. but getting hold of a plastic 1 was turning in to a bit of a night mare, I checked out the bits webbie u post tho and found single plastic cc terminators, so that's sorted that out :-). I think converting power armour gives more options tho, so still a bit undecided.

I love the fact that grey knight termies are s6 powerweapons. that's just so hawt compared to our luverly guard melee standards
