Im sittin here puttin together a squad when it occured to me that u can give SGT lasguns instead of a close combat wpn and pistol? If you are playing an avoid assault at all cost squad...then this to me seems like a great idea? am i wrong? cuase that means u have 10 (minus special wpns or hvy wpns) lasguns with rapid fire instead of 9 and a pistol?

Yeah... I ditched the CC weapons and took las rifles for my sergeants, guard get slaughtered in close combat anyways, whats the point of a pistol and chainsword if hes not even gonna live long enough to use it?

And on the veteran side of things, those whacky guys at Forgeworld gave us the cheap, cheap option of las rifle with underbarrel grenade launcher for our veteran sergeants too.

i always give my sgt a las rifle because i always need the extra range and shots that rapid fire gives.

I've only every given mine las guns, I don't see the point of having 1 guy with 2 cc weapons, in a 10 man squad.
Only other option in a general infantry squad for me would be a bolt gun instead if I'd made them a vet.
10 man squad with a heavy weapon, nade launcher and a bolter, would add a little more punch. Bit too expensive tho prehaps.

neh bolter just makes it more of a pain no point in spending the points when a las gun is free. i mean come on the guy is just going to die anyway and what you are guarenteed to kill 1-0 guys. In addition you have to roll the bolter seprately from the las guns. just go las trust me ;D
Cheers Dethklok ;D

I've only gone for las guns so far, was just an idea, as I have a few spare bolters from some SM scouts, bit too expensive really just to get a bolter.
Would look cool tho :-)

Yup, last night before I was done I changed all but one of my sgt over to lasgun, left the CC and pistol on my armored fist squad, because...one i was feeling lazy and two, figured id wait and see how they paned out, just finished putting them together and havent utilized the chimera and the squad so far...

I prefer having vet sarge with bolter or stormbolter...It gives extra punch and a kind of 2nd special weapon... Anyway, a sarge with lasgun is very nice: extra shot at 24" is always good!!! especially for the IG...

If you make the sgt a vet and gives him a bolter you have a Ld 8, a special weapon that is one point cheaper than the grenade launcher AND that additional CC-attack.

Yeah, I am switching to full las rifles, mainly because I've realized a few of them still have pistols.

ive given all my sergeants converted autoguns, just so they look a bit more rugged and hardened, like they've picked it up from a past battle. rulewise its the same as a lasgun though

I believe that for cc you should get shotguns/lasguns instead of ccw's because guard arent durable enough to be used in cc.

In cc most guardsmen and their sergeants just get torn up, its always good to keep the enemy at range.

Thats why you hide in the ruins with carapace and chameoline. Any sort of demented enemy that gets close enough to become a threat send in the 50 man conscript platoon!!!

Battlesuits are a tau's cheapskate option to anti-armoured firepower, those guys dont deserve to die, they deserve to burn in purgation

In one turn my 26 marines [dark angels] shot 4 battle suites to pices at 11" inches and then I killed 3 with 15 Kaskin Karskins in another game I owe two of them to grenade launchers loaded with krak grenades.
