Tau are fun to beat to a pulp!
Omg, I just realised! Take a 50 man conscript platoon and keep them in a building until the enemy is forced to go in after you and then jump out and rush him like a horde of hungry hungry hobo's! Or take the doctirine allowing hand weapons to all of them and make them go savage on them in close combat!

If you make the sgt a vet and gives him a bolter you have a Ld 8, a special weapon that is one point cheaper than the grenade launcher AND that additional CC-attack. the additional cc attack is what makes the vet sgt worth equipping with bolt pistol and chainsword. ultimately, I'm a fan of variety; I've got a sgt w/ bolter, one with a stormbolter, one with bp/ccw, and one with pp/ccw (though he gets used the least admittedly). as far as which I like the most, I'd say they're all about equal (with the exception of the plasma sergeant which just ticks me off when he nukes himself right before melee where his leadership is needed most heh). a great combo is a stormbolter sgt w/ grenade launcher in the squad. this makes a great supporting unit - it's good for adjusting its position to respond to a flank or frontal attack as the enemies battle plan develops. bolter sgts (and lasgun sgts) tend to be really static and while rapid firing is good, it's not always the answer. when it's not the answer you need your bp/ccw (or laspistol/ccw non-vet sgt) & flamer squads to roll in and shoot/charge to tie up the enemy on his turn (hopefully) so you can keep out of his way and try to put more las-fire into him. it's all got its place, it's really just a matter of getting everything to the proper place (which honestly either takes a HUGE amount of foresight or alot of movement which means limited heavy weapon and long range rifle fire). rapid fire is where the majority of the damage occurs. I've seen space marine squads crippled and turned in one rapid fire volley (plasma guns can be a beautiful thing!!)

I use bolters on my vet SRGs, cause im not intending to go into cc but i wanted something other then a lasgun. Plus, my friend has like 15 spare bolters from an old "battle for mccragge" set he never finished.

I have modelled shotguns for my seargants as they get them for free if they want and it adds more fire power to the squad. Although using the CC sprue u can make seargants look pretty drematic.

psycho...lasguns are actually stronger than autoguns...slug ammunitions are weaker than laser teachnology...plus...laser technology is cheap...that why they eventually replaced the standard autogun fer a lasgun...so in this case...i'd stick with lasguns

I also like to do things differently each time. Some times i give the vet a bolter, some times a bolt pistol and cc weapon, and now i'm going to try a storm bolter to see how that works. That idea of giving 50 conscripts cc weapons is just too funny.I can just see them charging or being charged by some Tau, the only time either ones will get to hit on 4'seach lol.

Conscripts can't get CC weapons as they're no Guard Infantry and therefore don't have access to warrior weapons.
And Autoguns and Lasguns are about the same strenght. Look at the Necromunda stats as they're far more detailed. The Lasgun and Autogun have about the same values. The Lasgun is just far more reliable and has a ammo roll of 2+ and not like the Autogun of 4+. And the Lasgun has an armour modifactor of -1 while the Autogun has no modifier.
(And there is no need to edit this stuff as you can download it for free on the Specialist Games Website)

STOP SAYING THAT THE GUARD CANT WIN CC. The guard are the emperors meat grinder and i don't care what you're facing dont sit and rapid fire charge them with three squads and those having those laspistols and cc weapons come into thier own.
I destroyed a full gensteller brood this way ;D ;D ;D thank to the flamers tho.
