Well, I figured that before I try to update the Dark Eldar codex to 5th edition I should at least know what I'm doing and learn to play with the current one. With that in mind I have scoured the web, looking for advice on how to construct a Dark Eldar list (there wasn't much, truth be told). This is the result:
Kabal of the Howling Jackal HQ: The Black Jackal (Archon) 155 Punisher, Tormentor Helm, Shadow Field, Trophy Rack, Hell Mask, Jetbike Troops: Raider Squad 145 Warrior w/ Splinter Cannon 9x Warriors Raider Troops: Raider Squad 145 Warrior w/ Splinter Cannon 9x Warriors Raider Troops: Raider Squad 145 Warrior w/ Splinter Cannon 9x Warriors Raider Troops: Raider Squad 145 Warrior w/ Splinter Cannon 9x Warriors Raider Heavy Support: Ravager w/ Night Shield 125 Heavy Support: Ravager w/ Night Shield, 3x Disintegrators 140 1000-point total: 1000 HQ: The White Dominatrix (Wych Dracite) 105 Agonizer, Animus Vitae, Combat Drugs, Trophy Rack HQ: The White Scars (Dracite Wych Retinue) 207 2x Wyches w/ Blasters 6x Wyches All models have wych weapons and plasma grenades (including Dracite) Raider w/ Horrorfex, Scaling Nets Elites: Warp Beast Pack 63 Beastmaster 4x Warp Beasts Heavy Support: Ravager w/ Night Shield 125 1500-point total: 1500 Elites: The Bloodletters (Wych Team) 255 Succubus w/ Punisher, Tormentor Helm, Trophy Rack, Soul Seeker Ammunition 2x Wyches w/ Blasters 5x Wyches All models have wych weapons and plasma grenades Raider w/ Horrorfex, Scaling Nets Fast Attack: Reaver Squadron 145 2x Reavers w/ Blasters 3x Reavers Fast Attack: Reaver Squadron 100 4x Reavers 2000-point total: 2000

Don't waste your points on scaling nets, and every raider should have a horrorfex.
Reavers are kind of iffy... although if the drachon is on one, that's better.
Other than that, not bad. I have to say though, I wonder why you don't have incubi in here... they're among the best cc units of the game.

Considering that my local metagame is largely Tau and Space Marines, I have a feeling that my Wyches should do the trick as far as close combat is concerned. Also, I can't mount Incubi on jetbikes, and since Wych Lords can't take Incubi retinues, they are sadly missing from this list (besides, the Wyches are there for fluff purposes, too).
Unfortunately, dropping the scaling nets means I'll have to add something else to the Wyches, and I'm rapidly running out of upgrades.

Alright!
*Cracks open the old DE codex...careful not to let the loose pages fall out.*
5 points over your limit on gear for the Archon(they can only take up to 100 points worth of wargear...though after careful reading perhaps the weapons are not included in this limit...so you might be fine with that after all.)
Hm...I also agree with what Requiem said about the upgrades and do not believe that squeezing everything in there just to fill up points is a wise idea...but I understand if you are trying to reach a set limit.

So, am I correct in assuming that I can take a normal Lord and a Wych Lord in the same list as long as the Wych Lord is not the highest ranking character in my list?

I took a good hard look at that as wellland as the wych lord is not leading the army and you did not make any changes to your list that would make it a wych cult...
I think you're alright how it is.

I don't think the night shields are going to help too much against those two armies, either. Not that they'll be useless, but I don't think they'll be entirely worth it.

OK, I finally got my hands on a copy of the Dark Eldar codex version 2 (I'd been using a PDF of the original version along with an update sheet I found on the web), and I'm glad that I did, because it saved me around 20 points or so in wych weapon and plasma grenade costs. I also got rid of the night fields (especially since they'll provide no protection against Tau railguns, which are the bane of Dark Eldar mechanized lists). The most recent updated list is as follows:
HQ: The Black Jackal (Archon) 155 Punisher, Tormentor Helm, Shadow Field, Reaver Jetbike, Hell Mask, Trophy Rack Fast Attack: The Pack (Reaver Jetbike Squadron) 145 2x Reavers w/ Blasters 3x Reavers Troops: Raider Squad 145 Warrior w/ Splinter Cannon 9x Warriors Raider Troops: Raider Squad 145 Warrior w/ Splinter Cannon 9x Warriors Raider Troops: Raider Squad 145 Warrior w/ Splinter Cannon 9x Warriors Raider Troops: Raider Squad 145 Warrior w/ Splinter Cannon 9x Warriors Raider Heavy Support: Ravager w/ 3x Disintegrators 120 1000-point total: 1000 HQ: The White Dominatrix (Wych Dracite) 162 Agonizer, Animus Vitae, Combat Drugs, Trophy Rack, Webway Portal, wych weapons, plasma grenades HQ: The White Scars (Dracite Wych Retinue) 233 Succubus w/ Punisher, Tormentor Helm, Splinter Pistol, Haywire Grenades 2x Wyches w/ Blasters 6x Wyches All models have wych weapons and plasma grenades Raider w/ Horrorfex Heavy Support: Ravager 105 1500-point total: 1500 Elites: The Bloodletters (Wych Team) 260 Succubus w/ Splinter Rifle, Agonizer, Tormentor Helm, Trophy Rack, Xenospasm 9x Wyches All models have wych weapons and plasma grenades Raider w/ Horrorfex Heavy Support: Ravager w/ 3x Disintegrators 120 Fast Attack: Reaver Squadron 120 2x Reavers w/ Blasters 2x Reavers 2000-point total: 2000

Cool. I still think that every raider should have a horrorfex. You gotta in those pesky enemy squads to give the wyches time to get into cc unmolested. And that's only viable with pinning test spam.

With any luck, I'll be testing this list before the week is out. It'll be interesting, to be sure.

OK, I ran the 1,000 point list against Tau (Spearhead Seize Ground, 5 objectives) and got tabled. In my defense, I gave him a hell of a fight, this was my first outing with the Black Jackal and I managed to hold three objectives for 5 turns despite heavy fire from battlesuits and fire warriors. I also claimed a six-man Fire Warrior team in one round of close combat (not a great achievement, since it cost me my Reavers and Archon, but the point still stands).
The problem I ran into was that I kept encountering massed pulse rifle fire which I was unable to deal with appropriately. Thus, I have dropped a Reaver from the Pack and outfitted every Raider and Ravager with a Horrorfex. I also did not take as much advantage of my mobility as I should have; what I should have done on turn one was turbo-boost my Reavers behind his lines and split his fire so that my Raiders wouldn't have been shot down as quickly as they were. I also forgot about my Reaver Drugs, which actually wouldn't have helped anyway since they don't exactly need close combat buffs against the Bluies. I should probably get better with jetbikes, too.
All in all, it certainly could have gone worse.

Sounds like a fine first outing with the DE...I suggest you get accustomed to getting tabled for awhile...at least until you get the swing of things.
It is not an forgiving army to play with...those little bastards will bite you for even the smallest mistake...but sooner or later they will surprise you, and when that happens it is epic.
